Obituary of Henry Frank Stachurski

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Henry Stachurski, on December 23, 2024, at the age of 57. Henry was born on September 18, 1967, in Hamilton, Ontario, to Aniela (2019) and Franciszek (2006) Stachurski. He was the adored baby brother to Mark (2016) and Rose (Henry Wegiel). Henry was devoted to his wife and best friend, Jodi Shaw, with whom he shared a loving and committed partnership for 17 years. Together, they built a strong and supportive family, and he will be deeply missed by his kids: Darien (Jordan), Cayley, and Aly. One of his proudest moments was becoming a Dziadziu to Easton. Henry was a loving and doting Wujciu to Julia (Eric), Andrew, Katrina, Daniella, and Natalie. He was a much loved son-in-law to Marilyn and Bill (2024) Shaw. He was very proud of his Polish heritage and will be missed by extended family and friends in Canada, the US, Australia, and Poland. Henry’s memory will be cherished by countless friends, especially “the gang” from High School.

Henry was a proud “Cardinal”. He was a Newman graduate, teacher, Department Head, and coach. His mentorship and leadership has left a lasting legacy at SJHNCSS, where he formed friendships and a special brotherhood with colleagues and students over his 25+ years of service. Henry also proudly served as an assistant coach for the women’s volleyball team at McMaster University for nine years and was instrumental in building the girls’ volleyball program at Newman.

Henry wholeheartedly supported the Bills, the Leafs, the Ti-Cats, and Liverpool FC. He was a gifted athlete and musician sharing his talents selflessly throughout his life. He loved the cottage, a game of cards, and singing around the campfire. Henry’s greatest passion was people and his greatest gift was his humanity. Known for his generosity, kindness, sense of humour, and quiet strength, Henry's influence extended far and wide. There are not enough words to express the profound impact he had on all the lives he touched, and the deep loss that will be felt with his passing. His love of family and enduring friendships will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Henry faced his illness with the same faith, grace and courage he lived his life. He was always grateful and humbled by the care and compassion of all those who became a part of his story. A special thanks to Lisa Owens and Ed Madronich for their friendship, love and support during this journey, and to Father Greg Merkley for his spiritual guidance and pastoral care.

Friends will be received on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, 934 Highway 8, Stoney Creek, followed by interment at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Assistance Program or Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice.
