Obituary of Reginald Owen Bainbridge

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Reginald Owen Bainbridge, beloved Husband, Father, Papa, Brother, Uncle and Friend, on August 20th, 2024. Surrounded by his family in his final moments, he was a man of the stars, a fan of everything including trains, music, birds and would identify any interesting plane flying overhead.

Reg was born in Hamilton on June 8, 1952, to the late James Gordon Bainbridge and Helen Marie Bainbridge (nee Martin). From a large family, he developed his love of nature, his enjoyment of sharing music with others, and gifting books of many genres such as birds, stars and classic stories, all from a humble apartment on the Hamilton mountain.

On October 5th, 1974, Reg married Patricia Elizabeth Bainbridge, his true love, his soulmate and best friend. Somehow this tall shaggy haired barefooted hippie in cut offs captured her heart. Together, they began a life raising their three daughters in Hamilton, eventually settling down in the town of Binbrook. A man of few words he would search for hours for the perfect card that reflected how he felt about his cherished wife and put his feelings into words. When scrolling through his pictures, one sees his main subject was beautiful pictures of his Patricia. (Of course, trains would be a close runner up!)

Reg officially retired in 2014 after serving the city of Burlington as a civil engineer for 40 years. He was a faithful and honest employee who kept in touch with many of his coworkers.

For over 25 years, he volunteered his time in the 89th Regiment of Foot Grenadier Company-Living History Unit who stated the following amongst their group. {We will take moments not to mourn his loss but to celebrate his life. He will be missed. "Rest easy Sergeant, you continue to serve us".}

He will be forever missed by his loving wife Patricia, daughter's Jennifer Bainbridge, Kimberly Kemp (Greg Kemp), Sarah Virtue (Matthew Virtue) and he was the most cherished Papa to Joshawa, Jack, Sayde-Ann, Mia, Kaitlyn, Jimmy and Dax. His sister Beverley Holmes and brothers Stephen Bainbridge (Lana) and Bruce Bainbridge (Shirley), his Aunt Claire Bousefield, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and several friends will miss him dearly.

Burial will take place at the Ayr Cemetery, 355 Stanley Street, Ayr, Ontario, Saturday September 28 at 1 p.m. A Celebration of Reg's Life will take place at the Paris Legion, 70 William Street, Paris, Ontario from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. on Sunday September 29, 2024.
