I tried over the last few days to think of some Special Memories and Moments that I would share - There are SO MANY for ME! - "Aunt" Lorna was a HUGE part of our Family!! She worked with my Grandpa and my Mom at the Post office and we spent a lot of time at their house because if we were home from school she'd call and ask if we wanted to help her deliver the mail and so my sister and I would help her A LOT!! But, that also meant I got to hold and protect the Honey Bees "Queen" Bees Safely until we arrived to give them to "Uncle John to put in with the other bees. She also got a puppy from us one time to and She named him "Blue" because of his colouring. We would often play ball with him outside and my sister would through the ball and he would sit but if I through it he would bring it back to me Aunt Lorna always told us that he does that because he knew I couldn't run. I loved going into visit them. It was ALWAYS a place I asked to go when I was "HOME" for a visit! I will ALWAYS remember our Talks and your "HUGS" - They made EVERYTHING BETTER!!! I loved going to visit there in Spring and Summer because all the sounds of nature were all around me and her flower gardens were in full bloom and absolutely beautiful. I loved the smell of freshly baked bread too! But MAPLE SYRUP Season was my favourite! Maple is still my favourite Flavour!!! The syrup they made was the BEST!! Aunt Lorna and Uncle John helped to make me into the person I have become today!!! - I am SO GRATEFUL for ALL the Memories we made. I will cherish them and hold them close in my heart! - We will ALWAYS Remember YOU and LOVE YOU ALWAYS!!

My memories of Aunt Lorna started when I was in grade 2 and she was my teacher. My Uncle John saw her someplace and said that she was a real nice looking woman and I should ask her if she would go to a show with him. The next morning in class I told her that my Uncle John asked me to ask her if she would go to the show with him. She told me to tell my Uncle John that if he wanted to take her to the show he would have to ask her himself, and the rest is history.
I remember a snowball fight in the school yard when the students started out divided in half with her on one of the teams. Before long all the students were on one side and she was alone on the other side. We were prepared with snowballs made ahead of time but she had to make hers on the spot and she managed to hold her own. I remember another day when we went across the road and up the hill to Young’s sugar bush where we spent the afternoon helping to gather sap and learn how to make maple syrup. Unfortunately, that very afternoon, the Inspector from the Board of Education showed up at the school and our teacher was in serious trouble because we were not there at our desks. Lorna stayed at the Rutledge farm while she was teaching and walked to and from school each day, which was over a concession away.
Our family spent many Sunday afternoons visiting Aunt Lorna and Uncle John where we enjoyed lots of great food and laughter. We hunted rabbits with Uncle John and his dog Smokey on numerous occasions. Aunt Lorna always made their home a welcome place to visit. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of being at Aunt Lorna and Uncle John’s pumpkin coloured house on the hill.

I am very thankful for aunt Lorna and the important part she played in our extended family. We enjoyed many fun times at aunt Lorna and uncle John's home from the occasional sleep over, to meals together, to family reunions. A favourite was going to the sugar bush in March break, especially when uncle John would boil the syrup to the point of it making taffy when poured on the snow. Such fun! Aunt Lorna was always welcoming when we came to their home, even when we arrived unannounced. She was the life of our family get togethers. Grateful for her in our family, for great memories! Till we meet again.... Miriam Freymond Turnbull

While her passing is a great loss, it is only with joy that I remember "Grandma" Lorna. Pictured is a holiday photo from January 2020. I was overjoyed to be included in the family gathering and to spend some time with my honourary grandparents before the world shut down. I remember it as one of my best Christmases, but thanks to Grandma Lorna there were many.
While not a biological family, Grandma Lorna opened her heart and her home to my family. We spent countless Christmases, weekends, and holidays visiting Lorna and John. Through them, my sister Jenn and I discovered the fun of collecting sap, summer camp, and playing with their grandkids (our cousins in spirit) Laura and James. They were there for some of our biggest milestones, and by our side through hardships. When we lost our home to a fire, Lorna and John were first on the scene, offering us comfort and a place to stay.
Grandma Lorna, always made time for me, and for so many others. Lorna was blessed with an incredible family, but also made "family" by the generosity and openheartedness she showed to her friends and community. It is an honour and joy to have been a part of that. And I think I speak for many when I say she will always be a part of who I am.
