Obituary of Rose Telfer
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Rose Telfer, 81, of Hamilton, Ontario, who passed away August 15, 2022 with her loving daughter, Michelle, and grandchildren, Sydney and Jameson, by her side. She will be deeply missed by her beloved sister, Betty, and her cherished nephew and niece, Alex and Deborah. Rose will also be deeply missed by Bill who provided tremendous love and support, but was also her favourite target for wise-cracks and jibes. Rose was pre-deceased by her brother, Bud, and will be missed by her dear friend, Dianne, and many nieces and nephews.
Rose was a devoted nurse who loved her nearly 30-year career at Joseph Brant Hospital, primarily in the ER and running the Fracture Clinic. Her dedication to her profession was so strong that she began volunteering at the hospital the week following her retirement, and continued to do so through the past two decades and even through her own illness. To say that Rose was an avid roller skater would be an understatement. Her passion for roller skating began in her teenage years and never ended. She would routinely drive long distances several times a week to get to a rink and meet up with her friends (many of whom could not keep up with her on the floor, despite being years or decades younger!) Rose was a long-time member of Kilbride United Church where she enjoyed serving at monthly Seniors’ Luncheons and the annual Migrant Workers’ Dinners. She was an incredible baker who was known for bringing her butter tarts and other treats everywhere she went – to her dentist appointments, her doctor’s office, and even to her mechanic!
A special thank you to Dr. Levine of Juravinski Cancer Centre, and to the incredible staff of Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice for their never-ending compassion, care, and support.
Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, on Sunday, August 21, 2022 at 3 p.m, with Visitation one hour prior. An interment service will be held in the near future. Details will be shared at that time. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice. Notes of sympathy and condolence may be made at www.donaldvbrown.ca.
