To Eilleen's Family,
We were so saddened to read in the Exeter paper that your Mom had passed away. We were wondering at Christmas time how she was doing. What a wonderful age she was! She was a very kind and thoughtful friend to my parents.
Thinking of all of you as you carry on without her, but do treasure your wonderful memories.

I have so many wonderful memories of Eileen, Gil, and the fun times spent in their huge beautiful home as well as the welcoming farm house in Aubigny, Manitoba. Nola was a dear high school friend and spending time with her Mom and other friends was always an adventure. Sending you all my heartfelt condolences. The very best of Eileen will live on in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In memory of Eilleen.
Eilleen from Canada and I, Hilkka from Finland met in southern France for about 45 years ago. We had both come to Montpellier to improve our skills in French language. Our friendship started there and lasted all these years.
Eilleen and I had much in common. We were both interested in languages, art, music and travelling. There was also another connecting element: When we first met Eilleen soon recognized some Canadian phrases in my English. And her ear for languages was quite right: I had worked some years in Canadian Embassy in Helsinki and many Canadian sayings had become familiar to me.
In addition to those four weeks in France Eilleen visited London while I was working there. Later on Eilleen visited Finland and met my husband Arto and our son Risto We toured in Finland and around. After my retirement I had finally time to visit Canada (1991). Eilleen was still living in Winnipeg, Man. - My dream had always been to travel across Canada from coast to coast. Eilleen knew this and she had planned a half-Canada tour. (The coast to coast train did not run any more.)
We flew from Winnipeg to Calgary with a stopover in Saskatoon - so that I could say having been in Saskatchewan! In Calgary we were met by ”Our Agent” i.e. Eilleen’s son Bruce (ever since called ”Our Agent”). After a tour in Calgary we travelled by train over the Rockies to Vancouver. It was Eilleen’s idea that one had to take a shower while up there going over the mountain. After that, all dressed-up a festive dinner in the dining car was amust. And that was what we did. We spent some days in Vancouver and made a trip to Victoria with overnight in the famous Victoria Hotel, where else! Eilleen wanted to give me an unforgettable time in Canada – and she succeeded.
These are just small glimpses into our long friendship. We corresponded many years until e-mail became available – what a relief! There was one important element - Ice Hochey – which connected Eilleen, Bruce and Arto (I have never learnt to understand the H-game but I was the info-link between them). During Eilleen’s few final years ”Our Agent” Bruce was the tie between Eilleen and ”Dear Hilkka” as Eilleen used to call me. Many thanks to Bruce.
I have said a prayer and ”au revoir ”to Dear Eilleen. Her happy spirit is perhaps travelling in new spheres!
With love and fond memories,
Hilkka

It was such a pleasure reading about Eileen's life. When I worked at the University of Winnipeg at the time she was there, I always noted what a classy dresser she was!! Plus always so much enthusiasm, energy and smiles. That's how everyone should go to work. She made a great contribution. Thank you for sharing her full story.

Eilleen had wit, she had class and she had many who loved her dearly. I was lucky enough to be one of them.
I met Eilleen – with two Ls – almost 10 years ago when I began dating her son, Bruce. I knew from our first meeting at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa for dinner that she would become a special person in my life.
Throughout the years I loved spending time with Eilleen. I loved to listen to her and Bruce on the phone. The love and mutual respect they had for each other came through in every call and interaction.
I was able to spend time with Eilleen in her last days. She always perked up when I spoke to her on the phone or in person and the day I arrived was no different. It made me smile knowing she was happy to see me. I talked about our fun times we had going to Niagara Falls and to Uxbridge. She loved riding beside me in my Jeep Willys and often had a devilish smile when we were on our way.
I miss Eilleen dearly. I miss her smile, her laugh, I miss everything about Eilleen. I just wish I could have met her long before and shared more than 10 years with her.
Always in my heart and memories my dear Eilleen with 2Ls.

I had the good sense and foresight to hire Eilleen at the University of Winnipeg when Robin Farquhar was president. I agree with his condolences, that Eilleen was both great at the job and a lot of fun to be with. Reading her obituary has allowed me to better understand the full breadth of Eilleen's zest for different experiences in life. I am so glad to have had the opportunity to work with her and know her. My condolences to all of you.

My sympathies in the passing of your mother. I remember Vic & Bruce from South Huron, and the time you lived in the farmhouse up the road from us. The loss of a mother is always a big loss. Cherish the special memories you have of her.

Eilleen Burrows was a good friend and respected colleague at The University of Winnipeg, where I was fortunate to work closely with her. As President, I had a particular mandate to develop the institution's external relations. A major component of this endeavour was to foster connections with the growing population of graduates, and Eileen was engaged to lead that initiative as Director of Alumni Affairs. She did a superb job, from which the University continues to benefit. She was also great fun to be with, and I miss her.
