My name is Robert Dyke. I was shocked & stunned to learn of Dave's sudden, untimely passing.
I first met Dave in 2013 on what else, a geocaching outing with my cousin Jeff who is an avid geocacher.. I am what is called a "mogul" in geocaching speak, meaning I'm not a registered geocacher. I've hung out with cachers for the travel & adventure aspects which is inherent with geocaching, which I find appealing.
I had not seen Dave in recent times, especially since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic which has kept so many of us apart. But I'll always have nice memories of the laughs & good times spent with Dave at Art park concerts in Lewiston New York, various caching outings, bar nights & cottage weekends at my cousin's cottage. And some of the Art park concerts ended in side adventures after. He had a zest & zeal for life.
He was a friend to all he met, including me. I'll miss his laugh. He left us all way too soon. I'll miss you Dave, we will all miss you a lot.
My sincere condolences to his family & friends during this tough time.

Very sad to think Buttons, as he was known in the Geocaching community , is no longer with us. As a fellow Geocacher , I met Dave shortly after I started caching back in 1998. During those 24 years our paths have crossed many times. Dave - buttons always had a smile and a laugh as he told many stories of his adventures locally and around the world. My sincere condolences to his family in this difficult time.
We will remember you as we meet at our Geocaching Events into the future.

I can't say enough about "Buttons" I will always remember him as such a Beaming Light of Positivity and Happiness. I looked forward to our weekly hang-outs at the Main office when he would come early for his meetings to hang out at my desk. He always greeted me with "Hellllo Officer" Which always brought a smile to my face. We would talk about travelling, Geocaching, His Family and Grand Children, Board Games, and Music. I will always remember the time Dave created a Geocache for me in the Main Office at Dofasco and i had so much fun hunting down my now prized "Button" It breaks my heart that you are gone but i know that you never took a day for granted and lived each and every day to the fullest! You left a mark Buttons, See you on the Other Side ! XOX Shayna - Dofasco Main Office Security

Sincere condolences to Dave's family.
I first met Dave and Laura, while caching along the BPACH trail, on a very cold winter day. They very kindly shuttled me back to my vehicle. Over the years, I enjoyed many geocaching "Buttons." moments.
R.I.P., Dave, you'll be missed!!

There aren't enough words to express how sorry I am for the Button family, and for the loss of my dear friend. We had so many adventures together, and been there for each other through thick and thin. He always made me laugh, and would needle me until he got the response he knew he'd eventually get from me....I met him at a geocaching event over 20 years ago, and since then we have geocached countless times together. Over those 20 years we camped, we sang, we travelled, we played games, we shopped, we gambled, we ate, he drank beer and I drank Coke....He was always a central part of my life and probably my closest friend. You could always count of Dave for a hand, and always for a laugh and a good time. Such a character! I will miss him immensely.

So sorry to hear of Dave’s passing my condolences to the Family. Dave was such a pleasure to be around. Enjoyed going on trips with Dave . MWGB , Northern Michigan and Morrocco to name a few . Then there was our spontaneous trips downtown TO for caching or going to Christmas market and stopping or a pint or two.
Dave loved music and i enjoyed going with him to see bands play at various venues. Very much enjoyed going to Artpark for the tuesday night concerts in the summer. it made for a rough Wednesday morning but it was totally worth it.
Going to miss Dave

Wherever we went with Dave shenanigans would ensue. Midwest Geobash Poker run where Dave found one stop was a antique store and dove in to find an old board game. An awesome trip to Michigan where more than a few laughs were had especially wandering around at close to midnight that required a stop for refreshments. And of course Morocco playing Boxes nightly to watching the moon rise over the Erg Chebi Sanddune.
Thanks for the memories Dave!

Dave used to post a few lines to a song, some well known and some obscure. He would then wait to see who could post the next line to the song. That always brought a smile to my face each day. I will miss that along with his almost 'larger than life' presence at geocaching events. Lighting a purple candle in his memory.
