Obituary of George Gardner

December 18, 1937 - February 1, 2021

It is with immense grief and sadness that Betty, Ken and Kathryn announce the sudden and unexpected passing of George Gardner on Monday, February 1, 2021 after suffering a catastrophic stroke.  Loving husband to Betty, father to Ken and Kathryn (Garett), brother to Irene Warner (Len), Ed Gardner and Madeline Trafford (Ray); brother-in-law to Ken Whiteman (Kathleen), Flo Mitchell, and Phyllis Mullins (Dave); Step-father to Joe (Janet), Carl McCumber (Shelley) and Paul McCumber (Sharon); Uncle to Richard and Mike Warner and Nancy Warner-Kitching (Alan), Dennis deCoeur, Ron deCoeur (Cindy), Louise O’Sullivan (Peter), Linda Norseworthy, and all of their children; Great Uncle to Leah Warner; and friend to all of his fellow tenants at 100 Stoney Brook Avenue in Stoney Creek.  George was an incredible man loved by everyone. His passion was helping people and everyone he greeted could tell immediately that he was a very special human being – one who radiated joy and light. He was a sweet, kind and gentle soul, always ready to lend a helping hand. He always had a hilarious joke to tell followed by the best laugh you’ve ever heard.  George was skilled with his hands. He worked as a plumber for J.F. Whitehead & Sons, Schime Plumbing & Heating, and Kerr Mechanical. He maintained the plumbing in schools across Hamilton where he regularly bumped into friends and family. When his kids were young, Christmas dinners were often interrupted by emergency plumbing calls! Never one to sit still, he single-handedly renovated his house, dreaming up the design and executing it flawlessly. After he retired, he had more time for his woodcraft hobby and he was constantly building tables, stools, shelves, planters, kitchen accessories etc. Every time he came up with something new, he was met with a pile of orders.  We are all devastated by his loss.  Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the immediate family will have a private goodbye. When the pandemic is over, we will host a Celebration of Life for all to attend. George always loves a party.
