Obituary of Bill Barnes

BARNES, William Patrick

It is with deep sadness and great love in our hearts that we announce Bill’s peaceful passing on April 19th in his 84th year. He is now with his soul mate and wife of 55 years, Carol (Greville).  Adored father of William Jr. (Wendy), Tobi Hawthorne (David) and Ted (Cathy). Loved grandfather of Amy, Lauren, Ally, David Jr., Cassidy and Jackson. Brother and brother-in-law to Margaret, Marilyn Bernacci (Ned) and Eileen Stewart (Lorne).  Bill was predeceased by his parents Ethelda and John and his brother Al (Jean).  Dad prided himself on being “the best electrician in the world” working with IBEW Local 105 and later retiring from the HWCDSB.  Known as “The Clapper” in the local drag racing world, Bill’s presence at the races will be missed - as will his Elvis Presley skills at various karaoke events.  One of his greatest joys was watching his grandchildren participate in activities, whether it was rowing, dance, hockey or junior dragster racing.  Rarely lost for words, Bill’s sense of humour always brought a smile. Special thanks to Woodlands of Sunset for their exemplary care.  Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, on Friday, April 26th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Vigil prayers at 8:30 p.m.  Funeral Mass to be celebrated at St. Margaret Mary Church, 20 Idlewood Avenue, Hamilton, on Saturday, April 27th at 10:00 a.m.  Cremation to follow.  As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region would be appreciated.
