Obituary of John Harold Stonehouse
John Harold Stonehouse
December 12, 1937 – March 19, 2019
John Stonehouse, son of the late Alice (nee Shaver) and Harold Stonehouse, passed away peacefully at the Queen’s Garden residence in the early hours of March 19th, 2019. John was a loving husband to Judy (nee MacDonald), and the proud father of Robert (Karen), David (Melanie), and Michael. He was the quiet but always interested Grampa of Emily, Jonah, Oliver, Oscar, Shane and Bruce, and the special Adka of Hannah. John was nephew to the late Mildred Sneyd, cousin to Carl and Clare, and second cousin to Ian and Beth (nee Dieter), and Kaitlyn and Sarah. Brother-in-law to Margaret (Frank), Marilyn (John), and Johnny (Sue). Together, John and Judy had many, many excellent friends, including Larry, John's best friend. John was the owner and manager of Stonehouse Hardware in Stoney Creek. He took pride in his exemplary customer service, and the belief that each and every employee was a valued part of a businesses' success. John loved Hamilton and felt proud to call it his home; he and Judy also spend a number of wonderful years in Caledonia. John's passion was in restoring British sports cars, where he modelled perfectionism and skill. He enjoyed a second career with Effort Trust, where he was a Property Manager for many years. John loved all things motorized and delighted in keeping an immaculate workshop, where he would reluctantly lend from his full tool collection (only after he took a mug shot with lender and tool). John shared his home with many four-legged friends, whom he delighted in spoiling and teaching tricks. The family would like to send a special thank you to the wonderful and compassionate staff of the Gage Park team at Queens Garden, who shared their love, parts of their life and laughter with John; your kindness and love enriched his life over the past six years. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home 36 Lake Avenue Dr, Stoney Creek on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. John’s Celebration of Life will be held in the chapel on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 3 p.m. In lieu of a donation, John would take delight in friends and family taking a bit of time to pass along an extra bit of kindness to brighten someone’s day.
