I'm so grateful to have known Mattie. His joyful spirit and sense of humour shone through at every Christmas gathering. He loved to show us funny videos and was so thoughtful in remembering us cousins with gifts. He exemplified love and resilience. Mattie will be greatly missed, and will live on in our hearts.

This is Kathy, my aunt Irma was staying at McNally House at the same time as Mattie. I'm sure his mom, Helen, (I don't think I knew your name until now) will remember me. We shared Boxing Day dinner at the hospice out by the kitchen, and I can say that from my brief encounter with Mattie, that he was truly a special soul among us. I've thought about Mattie and his mom since my aunt's passing in January. I saw how much love and care he received. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I was so truly heartbroken to hear of Mattie's passing. It has been my true honour and privilege to know Mattie and his wonderful family. All of them have been a real source of inspiration to me. Caring for him was a real gift and I am going to miss his tremendous smile very much. I would like to extend my gratitude to the whole family for allowing me into your lives. I will miss seeing Mattie each day and all my chats with the whole family. I will always remember Mattie and please accept my deepest condolences on his loss. I am saddened that I could not attend the service for his life. Please know I will always carry a fond memory of our time together with me always. God Bless.

Dear Helen, I read, with sadness, the notification of Matthew’s passing in the Spectator on Saturday. I was trying to remember when Mattie came to the clinic so many years ago and then Michael. I retired a dozen years ago, yet remember the presence that Mattie brought with him to clinic, his smiles and the light in his eyes. My sincere condolences at this time to Mattie's family. Though I only knew Mattie for a brief time he will always have a place in my heart. His contagious smile and upbeat humour was a true blessing. I really hope you find peace and healing at this time. You (Helen) are such a strong and wonderful women and it was always very clear the love you had for him. From his first”would you like to see my collection?” On my first visit to your wonderful living home all those years ago, to his last “love you too” when we moved and he could hardly speak, I loved Mattie with my whole heart. Here I was his minister and through his warmth, his l0ve, his jokes and his incredible happiness to be alive, he ministered to ME every time I saw him. Only a true gift from God could live such a sheltered existence and touch so many lives. Each and every life he touched and became part of is changed for the better because Mattie Kindree became part of it. I know mine most certainly is. A visit to Mattie and his wonderful family brought a reminder of what is important in life...love for one another, pure and unconditional. ADa8My heart is broken for Helen and Ross and all of Mattie’s family left behind without his presence. He will live forever in all of us. Fly free Mattie.
