DAL PRA, Sonya Elizabeth R.N. (nee Singer) (July 14, 1963 in Welland–June 1, 2009 in Grimsby) It is with profound sadness and deep regret that we announce the passing of Sonya DalPra at the young age of 45. After a short but courageous battle with cancer, she died peacefully, surrounded by her loving husband and devoted family at McNally House in Grimsby on Monday, June 1, 2009. Beloved wife of John DalPra of Grimsby. Cherished daughter of Olga Varga (Steve). Loved sister of Susan Fleury, Caroline Davis (Mike), Stephen Singer. Dear aunt of Tara and Karen Fleury, Anna Gambioli, Rachel, Cassie and Billy Davis, Anthony, John Carlo and Alexa and Nicholas DalPra. Will be missed by mother-in-law Gilda DalPra and the late Tulio DalPra. Predeceased by her father Steve Singer (2001), grandparents Geza (1978) and Pauline Kertesz (1986). Sonya graduated from Notre Dame College School (Welland) in 1981 and McMaster School of Nursing (St. Catharines) in 1985. She enjoyed a long and rewarding career in nursing. She had worked at Welland County General Hospital Emergency, McMaster Hospital GI Unit, Dr. McCellgan (Hamilton), and for the Hamilton-Wentworth Detention Centre as a Mental Health Nurse. She was also a member of the Canadian Hungarian Christian Association. Sonya had a love for gardening, art, music, cooking, antiques, spending time at the cottage and her dog Army. Friends will be received at the DONALD V. BROWN FUNERAL HOME, 36 Lake Avenue Dr., Stoney Creek on Thursday, June 4th, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. According to Sonya’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Cremation to follow.
