Obituary of Reginald Wheeler
WHEELER, Reginald
"Mr. Hamilton"
1918-2012
Another angel was welcomed into heaven the morning of Sunday, October 21, 2012 in his 93rd year. "Mr. Hamilton", Reginald Wheeler, long time resident of the Hamilton Beach Strip had passed peacefully at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington. Reg was the son of a Hamilton policeman and grew up during the depression. He learned how to make ends meet during those tough economic times. Reg will forever be remembered for his many contributions to the City of Hamilton when he was Alderman of ward 5 for many years. He played CFL football for the Flying Wildcats (Tiger Cats), was chairman of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, rowed for the Leander Boat Club's olympic team, and paid 47 years of service to Dofasco as Foreman in the melt shop and on the open hearth. As a Free Mason for many years, Reg Wheeler was a long time brethren of the Ancient Landmarks Doric Lodge. Also a noted member of the Probus club and East Hamilton Kiwanis club.
Among his numerous activities, Reg was first and foremost a beloved husband of Grace for 66 years, father to the late Bob, Renee and Len, and his most favourite job of all, taking care of his grandchildren Derek, Darryl, Melanie, Brent, Brock and Michelle. Reg was more than a devoted grandfather, but a father and a best friend to his grandchildren. He enjoyed spending every last day with his grandchildren and meant the whole world to them. His contagious smiles, laughter, sweetness, devotion, and contributions have touched us all and made this world a better place.
Reg will be in our thoughts and always and forever in our hearts.
