My aunt, Yvonne McNair, was a childhood friend of Reg Wheeler in the west end of Hamilton (Dundurn to Queen area) along with her siblings Betty, Albert and Gordon (my father). Their father Gordon was also a Hamilton policeman and friend of Reg's father Len.

Len, Elizabeth, Derek, Daryll, Melanie, Brock, Brent, Michelle... I wanted you to know how sorry I was to hear about your Dad and Grandpa. He was an incredible player and formidable figure in all your lives and what a great guy! I remember him coming out to greet us at the cottage on our visits and always being interested in what we were up to. It's hard to lose someone special, as you've all experienced in the past, but I hope you'll be comforted by the great memories of Reg and the knowledge that he meant so much to others. I'm sure he, Grace and Lynne are all sharing a few laughs! I'm so sorry I couldn't be with you at the funeral but you're in my thoughts. Look after each other in the coming days and months! xo Anita and George

My condolonces to your family. I can still remember Mr. Wheeler driving my sister Jo-Ann and I home from swimming practice with Renee and other HAC swimmers. A few years after my father's death I contacted "Reg Wheeler" to see if he could help my brother as at that time my brother had applied for a job (the other steel factory in Hamilton) and because of a back operation my brother had when he was thirteen the Company doctor decided he would not be suited for the job. Mr. Wheeler contacted the surgeon who operated on my brother and he then spoke to the Company's doctor. The next call I received was from Mr. Wheeler confirming everything was sorted out. He contributed so much to Hamilton and I will treasurer my found memories of the Wheeler family. Renee was my team mate, Bobby and I were in the same class in Grade 9 and I remember when Mrs. Wheeler was pregnant with Len.

Reg was our "football hero" for my brother Ron and myself,as young lads spending summers at Beckley Beach.
His and Grace's cottage was right across the road from our grandfather (Manny Hurst's) cottage and Reg would always take the time to throw the old pigskin around with us.
Later on when I had a young family ,he and Grace were kind enough to rent their lovely cottage to us on a few occassions.
Thinking of Reg always brings a smile to my face.
My condolences to his family.
