Obituary of Gerald (Jerry) Allen Arthur Smith

SMITH, Gerald Allen Arthur (Jerry) August 30, 1942-March 27, 2010 It is with profound sadness and sense of heartbreaking loss that we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Jerry Smith. His family is so grateful for all of the wonderful times that we shared together. Quite simply, no words can ever encompass everything Jerry was to his family, friends and the Glanbrook community. Jerry leaves behind his high school sweetheart and loving wife of forty-four years, Lynne, daughters Lisa MacLeod (Kenzie) and Laura Christian (Neil). Jerry was “the best grandpa ever” for his cherished grandchildren Kate-Lynne, William and Reese MacLeod. He will be greatly missed by his sister, Beverley Corsini (Robert), and sisters-in-law Rena Bozak (Vincent Berend) and Sandy Bozak. Jerry was predeceased by his parents Jake and Pearl Smith. Jerry was a regular fixture at the Glanbrook Arena and a frequent contributor of the “Have Your Say” section of the Glanbrook Gazette. He was a member of Local 1005 and a retiree from Stelco. His “Glanbrook Old Pumpers” and Hamilton Olde Sports Slo-Pitch Association have lost a true friend and sportsman. Jerry won numerous provincial championships in Fastball and his grandkids loved to come and watch him bat like no other. Friends and family can celebrate this remarkable man’s life and give him the opportunity for the last word at the Binbrook Agricultural Hall on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 from 6-9 p.m. As well, a special family skate will take place at the Glanbrook Arena on Saturday, April 10, 2010 from 12:30-2:30 p.m. In the spirit of Jerry’s love of hockey and his hometown, donations to the Glanbrook Minor Hockey Association can be made in Jerry’s memory at the upcoming celebrations.
