I have no words to express how sorry I am for your loss. He was an amazing person ... truly one-of-a-kind. My most vivid memories of Jerry are at the Glanbrook arena when I was a kid. I would usually hear Jerry before I saw him ... laughing and talking to someone. When I did see him he was always smiling. His energy lit up a room. People gravitated to him. Kids, too. He genuinely cared about people and so many people truly cared about him. I know I did. He always made me smile. He will be greatly missed.

I am deeply saddened and sorry for your unexpected and sudden loss of Jerry. He was a wonderful person that I had only known briefly through Old Timers baseball , I was a rookiein 2008 who hadn't played ball in 40+ years. Nevertheless Jerry took me under his wing and shared as much as he could with me.
Later during that summer I was stricken with 2 heart operations and my season was over. Jerry called me constantly to come and finish the season, but he more importantly, continued to call all through the winter and into the spring of 2009 checking me out and encouraging me to come out again. In that long winter, his positive enthusiasm, his stories that only Jerry could tell, helped me through some very dark days. He was a great inspiration, and I only wish that I had known him longer. What a wonderful person who demanded much from others but no more than he could accomplish himself. Thanks, Jerry, for being a friend! My condolences to your family.

Last August Jerry wrote a heartwarming article to remind/inform people about my father Glen. For my siblings and I it brought back fond memories & we weren't surprised to find Jerry's name attached. My father also had a special place in his heart for Jerry who had a passion for life and lived life to the fullest every day. We'll all miss Jerry's smile, honesty and compassion! Thanks for the memories Jerry.

Jerry was, and always will be, simply unforgettable. I am about 10 years younger than Jerry but still have very fond memories of going to the ball park as a young lad to watch him play for Binbrook's Junior fastball team. As a player, but especially as a hitter, Jerry was one of a kind. Always moving around the diamond with his trademark sense of humour and great athleticism, Jerry was almost always the center of attention. This was never more true than when he came to bat in a clutch situation. While in the on deck circle or walking to the plate, Jerry almost always found a way to make a humorous remark or gesture, one that caused not only the crowd but also opposing players and game officials to smile and chuckle. But when he got to the plate he was all business, and he was of course one of the best clutch hitters to ever play fastball in the Hamilton area in his time. He was a role model for aspiring young players at the time, not just for his athletic abilities but for his attitude and character. Not only a great player, but a great sportsman and gentleman as well. He will be missed by many.

To the family,
Please accept our heartfelt condolences. I enjoyed playing hockey with Jerry in both the GNHL and the Old Pumpers. Smitty provided lots of humour and laughter in the dressing room and with everyone he met. His sportsmanlike competitiveness and passion will long be remembered. We will fondly remember talking to Jerry twice at the Homestead Kitchen recently (in past month) where he showed us his book of historical pictures of Mount Hope and passionately and lovingly recounted his fondness of birthplace, ancestors, and hometown memories. Lovingly.

Words cannot express the sadness we feel in losing such a dear and special friend. We knew
he would always be there for us if we needed help in any way. We have many wonderful memories
of Jerry and will miss him dearly. He added so much fun and character to the activities of
this community for the kids and the adults. He loved our kids and they knew it. We were blessed
to know him and we are so sorry he was taken so soon. The entire community has lost a
devoted, unselfish and generous man.
Sending our love and prayers.
God bless you.
Larry and Joan.

Dear Lynne, Lisa, Laura
My heartfelt thoughts are with you at this sad time. I remember the way Jerry talked about you guys. The sun rose and set on all three of ‘his girls’. You were lucky women to have such a man in your lives.
Jerry seemed to believe that everything was possible. His dedication to the community, every kid he came across and his family was an example to us all. The stories, his pipe, always there to help with his positive attitude and that twinkle in his eye. Jerry was the go-to guy...he made it happen. He added so much to the lives he touched. The community has lost an icon. His deeds will live on and be an inspiration to us all. It was an honour to have known such a wonderful man.

my dad @ Stelco, Frank George. I will miss his many
stories of his working days with my dad, the many many jokes & stories we shared. I will miss him calling the doctor's office not for an appointment, but just to

Thanks so much for your wonderful thoughts. I have been laughing and crying and then laughing again nonstop. I didn't know that after Dad played ball he went with the rest of the ball team to guard the Dalgleish orchards to prevent more apples from being stolen! Your visits to the house, phone calls and emails have truly meant the world to myself, Mom and Laura.
Right now I know I don't know what I am going to do without my Dad. He was one-of-a-kind and I could rely on him for anything.
April 6th is going to be a happy celebration. There are so many stories to share. Remember, the open mike would have been taken over repeatedly by my father, so this is our last opportunity to let him have the last word!
You will always have a huge piece of my heart, Dad--and the hearts of the Glanbrook community.
