Obituary of Harry Henderson Ramsden

RAMSDEN, Harry Henderson Passed away courageously on September 16th, 2013, in his 89th year to be with his Lord. Harry was born on June 10, 1925, and is predeceased by his parents, Edith and Harry Sr., and sister, Gwen Smith. Survived by his wife, Olga, whom he dearly adored, married for 61 years. Much loved father of Wendy Young (David), Carol-Anne Deckert (Arthur), and Craig (Leslie Hartill). Devoted grandfather of Kyle and Sara, and sadly missed by their mother, Judy. Harry faced cancer head-on with overwhelming fortitude, and often with a smile, a wink, and a joke. An amputee from age 15, Harry was determined to take on everything he normally would. He became an adept hockey player and was named MVP in the former Westinghouse Hockey League. Harry was very proud of this accomplishment, and medical staff described his dexterity as "amazing." Harry also worked at Westinghouse (Sanford Ave.) standing for 47 years, as a lay-out man. Harry took great delight in his backyard escarpment, travel to B.C. and England, and loved to pull many practical jokes in his youth. He is best known for his great sense of humour. Harry will be fondly remembered by extended family and many friends. Deep gratitude to Roger (nephew) and Marilyn Smith, and to George Leng, lifetime friend, who brought Harry their compassion and comfort with regular visits at St. Peter's Hospital where Harry was also cared for by the excellent Palliative Care staff. A special thank you to Dr. Bev Hattersley. A Celebration of Life Memorial Reception will be held at Stoney Creek United Church (corner of King St. and Lake Ave. S.) on October 19th, 2013 at 2 p.m. Private cremation has taken place.
