Obituary of Robert Edward Barlow

BARLOW, Robert Edward Suddenly at Juravinski Hospital on May 29, 2013 in his 48th year. Cherished father of Nick and his mother Rose. Loving son of Penny Cook (Wayne) and Don (Jutta). Brother of Bill (Suzanne), Brad (Rachel), Brandi (Chris) and Samantha. Also remembered by his grandparents Nora and Ted Rayner and the late Wilf and Jessie Barlow. Robert was a proud New Democrat, former candidate and labour activist who was dedicated to building NDP presence in Hamilton. As Vice Chair of the Board, Robert was a HWDSB trustee for over eleven years representing wards 9 and 10. He was a strong supporter of public education and an advocate for one publicly funded school system. He was a champion for children's social and educational needs both inside and outside of the classroom. Bob was also Canadian Commissioner of Babe Ruth Baseball and Tournament Director with the East Hamilton Babe Ruth League for many years. Special thanks to the emergency staff at Juravinski Hospital for their compassionate care. Friends will be received at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Sunday, June 2, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. A Celebration of Bob's Life will take place at Stoney Creek United Church on Monday, June 3, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or East Hamilton Battlefield Babe Ruth League Cal Ripken Baseball would be appreciated.
