To Marion & Family,
I can't even begin to imagine your loss of this AMAZING man. He was our family doctor from day one and the loss we feel is indescribable.
There is never going to be another Doctor who treated all his patients with the love and tenderness that Dr. Awrey ALWAYS did. The humor and his laugh..... whenever he treated my girls Erin and Katie. Teasing Erin with a HUGE needle because he knew her fear of needles, then the deep, belly laugh when he saw the look on her face.... oh so many memories ...good and not so good but he was ALWAYS there for us night or day and even at our home when need be.
So much love back to you, Marion and your family.
Tracy Erin & Katie Carne

Dr. Awrey had been our family Doctor since the days he started his practice. He delivered two of our four children. He became much more than a family doctor, he became a family friend. While most doctors stopped making house calls, he continued and came out to our family home on numerous occasions to provide the needed care to one or another that was unable to make it to his office. Although we speak of him as both a doctor and a friend he was much more than that and we can’t make this point strong enough, Bill genuinely cared for his patients, in one way or another I am sure he saw his patients as his extended family. We all consider ourselves very fortunate for having known him and for being under his care for so long. He will be greatly missed by all of us.
On behalf of all the Bowermans, Please accept our sincere condolences to Marion and the rest of the Family.

My deepest sympathy to the entire family. Dr. Awry's compassionate home visits to my mother, Edith Lomas, made it possible for her to remain in her apartment for as long as possible. She looked forward to his visits as he brightened up her mood with his sense of humour. I was fortunate to have been present for a couple of the visits since returning to the area recently. It was like seeing a dear friend.

Mom will be devastated when I tell her next week at the nursing home. She still refers to him as her doctor, and cannot understand why he is no longer looking after her, as she thinks she is in the hospital. Please also convey my sympathy to the staff, especially Betty Ann, whom mom always dealt with. As you know, he was a wonderful friend and doctor to the rest of our family as well. Dear Marion: My sincerest condolences to you and your family on the passing of your beloved Bill. Bill took care of my parents, Michael and Elizabeth Elov, for many decades. In their declining years I am not sure whether it was the prescribed medications or Bill's robust laugh coupled with a genuine interest in our extended family which helped the most. When my father was physically incapable of going to visit Dr. Awrey, Dr. Awrey would visit him at home. When my father passed away, Dr. Awrey visited the funeral home to give us his support. Dr. Awrey truly was a great family physician who was kind, caring, and compassionate. We feel fortunate that we were able to enjoy him for many years and now will miss him dearly.

Marion and family: Our loving memories of a gentle human being go out to all of the family. Dr. Bill has been a part of our lives for 47 years. Not only did he bring our boys into our lives but , in his own way, guided them through trials and traumas toward adulthood.
Bill's sense of humour and lack of political correctiveness brightened our times in his presence. As a caring Dr. his "bedside manner" was unrivalled. Every day that lies ahead ... remember just 1 crazy, wonderful word Bill uttered, and the day will shine as he did, and you will have the realization of how much he was ,and continues to be loved. To my Aunt Marion, my cousins Bill, Wendy, Margaret, John and their families
I was so shocked to hear of the passing of Uncle Bill. So many memories flood back to me when I think of him but a few most special come to mind.
Uncle Bill was truly the epitome of the ideal family doctor. My understanding is that he made house calls long after those were out of fashion. In my case I remember one wonderful and amusing example. In 1969 even though he was not my family doctor he paid me a visit at Chedoke Hospital when I had my appendix out even though he was not my family doctor. His bedside manner was incredible. What I mean is this. He not only took time out of his busy schedule to visit me but he knew exactly what to do to cheer up a bed ridden 14 year old. He brought me my very first Playboy Magazine!!!!!
As well, I remember the family functions where two people were the life of the party, my Dad Cliff and Uncle Bill two of the most outgoing, friendly and caring people in the world. As a basically shy person myself I would marvel watching how these two amazing people were the center of attention just by being themselves and showing an interest in other people.
Finally I remember how Uncle Bill was there for me and Mom when my Dad was gravely ill at the end of his life. He knew that even though there was nothing that could be done for Dad, the most important thing is to offer unconditional support.
Uncle Bill was truly a remarkable man. I can imagine that he touched many people's lives. And that is very much a life well lived.
Again my deepest sympathies
His nephew

Dear Marion; So sorry to read of Bill's passing. He was an exceptional family doctor for our mom and dad.
He had a terrific relationship with my mom. She always said that Dr. Awrey just dropped in for a visit on his way home from work. She loved giving him mince tarts at Christmas and they both had huge giggles when he would model her hats.
His compassion and understanding will be truly missed--not only our family but the community as a whole.
Sincerely, Karen Cosier (Middlemost)

Dr. Awrey holds a special place in the hearts of my family. He was our family physician for over forty years and his grace and compassion made an indelible impression.
I remember his house calls when I was a child, his smiling face a reassurance to a feverish child that all would be well. I remember mine and my brothers' yearly football medicals, the three of us lined up in front of him and his making us laugh through the embarrassment. I remember him at our home when our father passed three years ago, with the same compassion, warmth and reassurance he always conveyed to us.
Dr. Awrey was an exceptional physician and an exceptional person who I will always hold in high regard. The thoughts and prayers of the DeRoches family are with you at this time.

Four generations of this family have had the extreme priviledge of haveing Doc Awrey as physician and friend.
We were always met with a warm smile and "how are you"? no matter how busy you were. When Dad was no longer able to come to the office, you stopped in to see him after a long day at the office. You have no idea how much that was appreciated by Dad and the family. You cared for Mom and Dad, myself as a child...my children, my husband and grandkids. Doc Awrey, you are going to be so greatly missed. Mrs. Awrey our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to Dr. Awrey's Family and staff. Dr. Awrey was a part of our family and was always there for me and my family giving us the best care and really listening to our concerns. I will never forget the support and caring! I remember having a family crisis and he called me at home after hours and gave that kind of support that only true people can give. He will never be forgotten in our home. My little one said now Doctor Awrey can give suckers to grandma in Heaven and Im sure he has a pocket full for everyone. We will miss him.

So sorry for your loss. My dad, John, started going to see Dr. Awrey in his first year of practicing medicine, sometimes I wonder if Dad was a hypocondriac, or if he just liked the company, he sure seemed to be there a lot :)
Later, he started caring for my mom, Elsie, who has MS; he knew how hard it was for her to get out, so he always made time to get to the house, where, he knew, most likely a pie, cake or some tarts would be waiting! (Mrs. Awrey...I certainly hoped that he shared those goodies with you!).
When I was about 5, I had to go to the emergency room for stitches in my leg, I realized it was Dr. Awrey, and asked him how many stitches it would take, he said 2; after the fact he apologized to me for the fact that he actually had to put in 3! I will look at that scar more fondly from now on!
God bless you; you were a good man, I wish there were more on this earth like you.
P.S. Please excuse any spelling errors, I can't seem to see properly through the tears.

Dear Aunt Marion, Bill Jr, Wendy, Margaret, John and your families, with deepest empathy to each of you, Uncle Bill was a very loved man and his laugh will be remembered by all of us who knew him. Uncle Bill is a memory I have while lying in a hospital bed hearing his laugh off in a distance and then as the elevator doors opened it grew louder and louder as he walked down the hall to my room, greeting the staff and a few patients on the way, to see how I was doing. The pain that you feel is not something that goes away, only you will learn to cope with it in time when your tears will ease and your thoughts will become comforting over time. God Bless you all. Love From: Cheryl & John, Jack Francis.

Marion and family ..... you have enjoyed a GREAT GUY
for many years (but not enough !)
Bill and I shared many hours of fun and friendship at Delta,
a way back in the 50's ! He then became the family doctor for the Arno's of Houghton Avenue South and "looked after all of us" for many, many years.
He guided my dear Lillian through her turmoils of Cancer and has been deeply involved in the care of my daughter Leanne.
He will be remembered as a very SPECIAL man and Doctor.
Tears will be shed for a long time by family, his devoted staff and many friends.

Marion, I can't express how deeply sorry we all are to hear the sad news.
Dr. Awrey felt like part of our family. He took such incredible care of my father when he was battling his cancer just less than 2 years ago. Dr. Awrey made house calls to check my dad and just comfort him. My dad always felt hopeful when he saw Dr. Awrey at the house. Dr. Awrey worked tirelessly all day long and after work he would come to our house to check on my dad and talk to me and my mom about my dad's condition while he sipped a CC neat.
You can't even imagine how much comfort he brought to me and my mom while my father was bed ridden. There isn't enough room on the website to list his kind words and actions. And after my father died, he continued to take great medical care of my mother, always asking if she was okay emotionally. How wonderful to have a doctor care so much for his patients.
We will all miss him very very much, not just as a doctor but a great man.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your wonderful family. May God give you the strength to find peace in your broken hearts.
All our love
Carmela, Rosanne and Nigel Luongo
