Obituary of Russell Ernest Phillips

June 12, 1954 – January 5, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Russ on Sunday, January 5th, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hamilton in his 71st year, with his wife, son, daughter and son-in-law at his side.

Beloved husband, soulmate, and love of his life, and travel companion, Katharine for 49 years. His children Jason (Suzi) and Michelle (Craig).  Predeceased by his parents, Carl and Minnie (nee Colbert). Russ will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Madi, Simon, Emma, Noah, Hayden, Caidence and Fiona. Nieces and nephews.  Close friends Tom, David, Dave, Wendy and Graham. Dear brother of Andrea (John), brother-in-law Frank (Michelle), Robert (Jane), Michael (Michelle), father-in-law William Arrowsmith.

Russ loved sports and competing. During his life he played hockey, baseball, curling, and loved to fish. He was very skilled with his hands, including many home renovation projects, building their cottage, and helping others build decks and sheds.  He would spend hours on his passion for Decoy carving and honing the art of Bonsai.  But his greatest joy was watching his grandchildren play hockey. Russ retired from ArcelorMittal Dofasco in 2012 after 38 years of service. Special thanks to the nurses and doctors of St. Joseph’s Hospital Hamilton for their compassionate care.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Russ’s Life will be held at a later date. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Condolences may be made to www.donaldvbrown.ca
