Obituary of Robert George Holmes
July 30, 1943 – December 14, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Robert (Bob) George Holmes on December 14, 2024, at the age of 81. Born and raised in Hamilton, Bob lived a life marked by faith, love, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family.
Predeceased by his beloved parents, Robert and Gwendoline Holmes, and his older sister Betty, Bob’s legacy lives on through his cherished family. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lois Holmes (Wilson), "the love of his life", whom he cared for with untiring devotion and unfailing love; daughter's Rebecca (Dennis Shannon) and Tamara (Jason Youngberg), who brought him endless joy; and niece Laura Comer.
Known as “Poppy” by his ten adored grandchildren—Kessler, Rachael, Kieren, Quinten, Declan, Peyton, Caia, Joelle, Esme, and William—he was a constant source of wisdom, humour, unconditional love and above all else, faith.
Bob had an illustrious career in real estate and was an savvy businessman. He had a keen wit and loved a good laugh. Always up for adventure, Bob enjoyed experiencing new cultures and traditions, making friends wherever he went. He cared deeply for people, remembering important details of their lives with intention. He was a champion of justice and helped many people overcome seemingly impossible situations.
He fiercely loved his wife and family but most of all, he loved Jesus. He will forever be remembered for his unwavering belief in the Gospel of Christ and faith in God, warm smile, boundless kindness, and the countless cherished moments he shared with those blessed enough to know him.
Bob’s life was a testament to the power of faith, love and family. His memory will continue to inspire and comfort all who were touched by his presence.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2024 from 2-5 p.m. at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honour at 11:00 a.m. on December 23, 2024 at James North Baptist Church, 500 James Street North, Hamilton. A reception at the church will follow. A private family intermittent will be held prior to the Celebration of Life.
The family is forever grateful for the extraordinary care Bob received from the staff at the General Hospital in the Cardiac Care Unit and the CVICU, whose extraordinary care & compassion allowed Bob to live his last moments with dignity.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Mission Services of Hamilton .
He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
