David Rolls, my remembrances of Rev. Donald Coombe
First a little family history. My father Charles Rolls and Doris were first cousins. Doris’s mother and my grandfather were brother and sister. Don was the last of my father’s generation.
I met Don for the first time when he and Doris Peto where married October 1958. Their wedding was the first one my brother and I attended. There were other brief meetings at family gatherings at the cottage on Lake Simcoe until our family moved to Edmonton in 1964. Don and Doris visited my parents in Edmonton; however, I don’t remember the year.
With our daughter Colleen and her husband Matt living in Toronto, Gill and I began regular visits. During those visits I would visit Norma Rolls a second cousin of my father at her home in St. Catharines, then pick up Don and we would have lunch at one of his favourite restaurants. This is when I really got to know Don. We would have great talks on all kinds of topics. He kept active both mentally and physically with his church work and swimming.
Don was the last of the family of my father’s generation and his positive outlook on life will be missed my family and friends.

I'm so sorry to hear about Uncle Don. That is sad and difficult for you all. Your Dad was a great guy: full of fun, intelligent, interesting, yet down-to-earth. He was bursting with energy and was terrific at uplifting and encouraging everyone. He will be greatly missed. Sending you my deepest condolences and love. ❤️

Condolences to the family. I remember Don as one of my predecessors at a church in the East end of Hamilton, one that is no longer there. He was a good and gentle man, with a smile for everyone.

Uncle Don was the perfect "favourite uncle" -- full of life and full of fun, always positive and a guy you enjoyed being around. We send our best to Philip, Stephen and Mary.
