Obituary of John Coburn
John Coburn passed away peacefully on October 22nd, his 88th birthday. John was born in Gateshead, England, the youngest of 5 children born to John and Jennifer Coburn. He attended primary and technical college in England, with his primary field of study being accounting. His passion during his youth was playing rugby, much to the disappointment of his father, who wanted a soccer player in the family. In 1960, he left England after boarding the R.M.S Carinthia headed for Canada to begin a new adventure. While working at the Bank of Montreal in Toronto, he caught the eye of a customer, Nancy Ralston. This meeting was the beginning of a lifelong relationship. Nancy introduced John to the Christadelphian faith, which not only became his hope for salvation, but also introduced to him to friendships that lasted the remainder of his life.
John and Nancy had many adventures together during their 60 years of marriage, including their move to Florida where they lived for nearly 40 years. With his affable personality, he was able to make friends wherever he went. After the death of his beloved Nancy earlier this year, he lost his friend, partner and motivator. He was unable to recover from the loss. He is survived by his two sons, Ian (Shelly), Peter (Jennifer), three grandchildren, Emma (Jake), Owen (Josie), John, his sister Joan Aspin and numerous nieces and nephews in both Canada and the United Kingdom.
