Obituary of Mirko Kozjak

March 3, 1942 ~ October 9, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mirko Kozjak.  After a long courageous health battle, Mirko passed peacefully on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.  Predeceased by his loving wife Ilinka (2021), Mirko will be dearly missed as a loving and devoted father to Alex (Luisa).  Brother-in-law of Bata (Zlata), Jelica (and her late husband Boris), and Milena (and his late brother Dusan). Cherished uncle to his many nieces and nephews but especially close to Aleks and Milijana and to his extended Crkvenvjas family of Sinisa (Dragana) and to kumovi Knezevic and Stupar’s of Hamilton.  Much loved by many extended family and friends in the former Jugoslavia but especially close to his sister Sava and his cousin Veljko.

Mirko was born in Herzegovina and immigrated from Novi Sad, Serbia in 1968 to Hamilton and made an impact on many lives over the years, sponsoring others to come to Canada.  He was a member of the St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Cathedral (Nash Rd.) and proudly worked as a Supervisor for Ford Motor Company until his retirement.  Those close to him will also know his passion for chess, tennis, the lottery, and to debate. He will be sadly missed by many, including family and friends in Canada and abroad.

The family would also like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at Lakeview Retirement Centre, the St. Joesph’s King Hemodialysis Unit and Dr. Ratka Timarac (Miladin) for her many years of compassionate care and friendship.  Should someone wish to make a donation in his memory the family asks to contribute to St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Cathedral or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada

Family and friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Thursday October 17, 2024 from 10 a.m. until the time of service in the Chapel at 11 a.m. with The Very Reverend Father Djuro Samac officiating.  Interment to follow at Eastlawn Cemetery, 2280 Barton St E, Hamilton.
