To Barry's family: I just received the information to-day and wish to extend my belated condolences. I will miss my chats with Barry when he would drive by my place on Tammy's Cove Rd. He always stopped when he saw me outside and we would have a long chat about what had happened since our last chat. I'm sure Marsha was waiting to greet him and they were busy catching up.
God bless you all as you go forward with your lives knowing he will be watching over you.

Although I only knew you a short period of time, I’m grateful I met you. I was a stranger and u welcome into your home with open arms. I promise to always be here for your son Bob who is a spitting image of your character. U were always good for a laugh with a quick witty 1 liner right up until your last days. I am happy to know you are reunited again with your wife of 43 years just in time for Valentine’s Day. Thanks for the good conversations and education you taught me. Rest easy until we all see u again. With love, Collea xoxox

Prior to my time as an NDP member of Parliament, I spent 28 years at the Hamilton and District Labour Council,14 as its President. I worked closely with Barry and Bud Calligan, both were strong Trade Unionists who served their members and our Community well. They clearly understood that Union and Community Solidarity was the best way to improve working conditions for their members and the broader community.
I will miss their dedication and strong principles from which Hamilton and Ontario without a doubt became better places to work and raise our families.

I am saddened by Barry's passing. We were on the Board st Saltfleet Minor Hockey. Barry was a champion for the Houseleague specially the Midget/Juvenile age group.
I loved snapping his suspenders, whst a hoot he was. We worked Sundays at Peach Festival together, we were never bored.
Rest now my friend and say Hello to Marsha, Donna n Don. I am sure they are all reunited.
My deepest sympathies to Barry's family.

Have known Barry for over 50 years as a neighbor, friend, workmate and UBC brother. I recognize him as a dedicated leader who along with his executive brothers took “Local 18” into the 21st century of organized labor.
His efforts are evident each week a brother receives a pay cheque, when a retiree gets his monthly deposit and when all local 18 members, their spouses, their dependents receive the care and benefits hammered out under the leadership of “Brother Barry”
Rest in peace wherever you chose your path.

My sincere condolence's to Barry’s entire family. Barry was a fun boss to work for and quite the entertaining friend. Meals were always an experience including xtra butter, salt and always bread. FRINGS were often discussed if the restaurant didn’t have them. We travelled with the UBC together to many locations. You were and are, definitely “ 1 of a kind “. You’ll be missed my boss, my mentor, my brother and my friend.

Always remember taking my daughter when she was young to the union hall where Uncle Barry asked if she liked candy. They proceeded to go to his office and fill her pockets full of candy from his cabinets. She passed on the can of Diet Coke. Barry was such a great man for all of us Carpenters and our family's, he will be deeply missed
