I was a teenager when I first met Ken. My sister Carol brought her new husband home to Burleigh Falls to meet us for the first time. All I knew was that Carol had made a fantastic choice. Ken was drop dead handsome and I was so impressed.
One early remembrance was when I came to work and live in London Ontario and boarded with Carol and Ken in 1962. It was a one bedroom apartment on top of a used furniture store on Richmond street, that Ken owned with a partner. Their son, Jeff was a baby at that time and when I came home after work, I would pound my way up the stairs and loudly open the door to the apartment usually waking up the baby with the noise. Ken gave me the nick name. Crash!
Ken was the quiet distinguished one and Carol was so outgoing and sociable together they made a good pair.
Carol and Ken moved back to the Peterborough area and Ken became a sales manager for the Eaton’s store. Bob and I moved to Burleigh Falls and built a house and oh the wonderful visits we shared with Ken and Carol and all the kids, fishing, swimming and waterskiing on my dad’s island in the summertime.
When they moved to Timmins Carol joined the church and through her prayers and my Moms intervention and letters to the Pastor there, Ken put his trust in Jesus and became a member of the church as well.
Jesus followed Ken throughout his life and when he and Carol moved to Hamilton, God gave them a wonderful friend and pastor in Guenter and his wife Trudy.
God also blessed him with a sweet family who are dear to me as well. Kim, I so enjoyed the dinner we had with all of you last summer. It was so precious to hear Ken say grace as usual at the table. And your hospitality reminded me of all the fun dinners and pool swims we enjoyed in your mom and dad’s backyard. You all are treasures to me and I know you will miss your dad. He was so a part of your lives. Brent told me, he lost his best friend, on Friday. What a legacy he leaves behind him.
I am so blessed to have known this gracious, fun loving, gentleman and I am looking forward to seeing him again in heaven and hear him say… ‘Look out everybody, here comes Crash.’
Lovingly remembering my dear brother-in-law, Ken
