Obituary of Iris Mulholland
Peacefully at home surrounded by her husband, daughter, and grandchildren. Beloved wife of Gilbert for 72 years. Much loved mother to Susan and grandmother to Lily and Jamie Ferguson. Also loving mother to Larry (Renata) and grandmother to David (Amanda) and Paul (Andrea) and great-grandmother to Kaylee, Riley, and Jillian. Daughter of the late Frank and Marie Jones. Beloved sister to Thelma Carter, Marlene Boniface, and the late Helen Bernard. Loved sister-in-law to Ray and the late Bob Mulholland. Loved by many nieces and nephews.
Mom and Dad have known each other since my mom was in grade 2. She married my dad at 16 and moved into my grandparents' house. My granddad loved her like a daughter. He taught her to cook, and we will miss her Christmas baking and Yorkshire pudding. Mom spent her the early years of her marriage working as a typist for the gas company and helping to care for my dad's younger brothers when our grandma became ill. Later she became a full-time mom and took care of her own children. She was a great mom. She loved to tell stories of all the hijinks the Jones' girls got into when their father was overseas at war. Mom and dad both enjoyed vacations and cruises with my mom's sisters and made eternal memories of trips to Disney World with their children and grandchildren which they were extremely proud of their accomplishments.
When we got older, my mom enjoyed her job as a shelf reader at the public library which got her out of the house and earning her own "mad" money. When dad retired, they moved to Twenty Place which added years to both of their lives. They joined the coffee club and played bingo, and mom made new girlfriends who she enjoyed going out for lunch with. Mom was feisty right until the end. When I told her that she had been a rebel all her life, she was so proud of that. Mom will be waiting for dad to join her in heaven where they will be reunited with family and friends and their much-loved golden retriever Beast and mom's cat Scrapper. Heartfelt thanks from the family to Nancy and all of the wonderful PSWs from Bayshore who looked after mom at home and to all of the caring staff in the Nephrology department at St. Joseph's Hospital. At mom's request, cremation has taken place, and a private family service will take place.
