Obituary of Tony Ferko

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Anton (Tony) Ferko, in his 81st year, on December 20, 2023, surrounded at home by his loving children. Beloved husband of Elizabeth (predeceased) for 46 years until her passing in 2014. Loving father of Tanya, Elizabeth, Nicole (Andrew), Tony (Tara) and Amy (Sean). Cherished Grandpa of Adam, Madeleine, Isabelle, Charlotte, Michael, Alexander, and Oliver. Dearly loved by his sisters Anica (Vili) and Frida. Predeceased by his sisters Franciska (Adolf), Emilija (Feri), and his brother Franc (Maria). He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews in Slovenia and Canada, and the many friends Dad has made throughout his life.

Tony will be remembered for being a talented machinist, his love of music and enjoying life with family and friends. He was an incredibly talented accordion player. He played music with his heart and his songs reflected his love for life and the people around him. His love for entertaining was matched only by his love for his family. As a father and husband, Tony was a pillar of strength and support for his family.

Special thank you to the palliative care team, Mary-Ellen (LHIN), nurse Anne (LHIN), and Janet (out-reach team) for their special support, expertise, and kindness. Also, to the CBI, Right At Home, and Nurse Next Door visiting nurses for their exceptional care. Extra special thanks to Kelly (PSW) for her compassionate heart and gracious smile. To Nora (PSW), who’s kindness shined a bright light.

Visitation at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive on Thursday, December 28th from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with Vigil Prayers at 3:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gregory the Great Slovenian Church, 125 Centennial Parkway north, on Friday, December 29th at 10 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In Tony’s memory, donations to the Canadian Liver Foundation or to St. Gregory the Great Slovenian Parish would be greatly appreciated.

Dad, you inspired us with your courage and strength. You have always been fearless in the face of life’s challenges. Your music will play on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to be touched by your extraordinary and generous spirit. You will be deeply missed but will live in our hearts forever.
