Obituary of Shirley Enid Hiscoe

(Wells)

Passed away peacefully at 96 years of age at Juravinski Hospital with family at her side.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Bruce in 1997, and her beloved son Kevin in 2017. Survived by her loving daughters and sons-in-law Cheryl (Gary), Debbie (Don), Nancy (Ed), and daughter-in-law Janet.  Nana to Erin (Cam), Adam (Peter), Kate (Jordan), Chelsea, Laura, Michael (Jessica) and Steven (Julia).  GG to Evan, Abby, Megan, Lily, Noah, Josephine, Elizabeth, Noelle and Llewyn.  Dear Aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Shirley came to Canada 77 years ago, following WWII, to marry Bruce, a Canadian soldier stationed for a time in Brighton, England, where they met and courted throughout the war.  They settled in Hamilton Ontario to raise their family.  Shirley worked for many years at the McMaster Clinic at Hamilton General Hospital, where she was respected and loved for her leadership, quick wit, and sense of humour. After retirement, she and Bruce enjoyed many years in Florida for the winter and Bruce Peninsula for the summer.  They travelled extensively through Europe, Canada and the US.  After Bruce died, she moved to Burlington where she met many new friends, enjoying regular cocktail hours with them.

As those who knew her will agree, Shirley was a force to be reckoned with, and fiercely independent.  She loved to travel, from camping to bus trips to luxury cruises.  She loved a good book, good food, good wine, good friends and most of all her family.  She leaves behind a legacy of love. Hers was a life well lived.  She will be missed beyond measure.

The family would like to thank the nurses on E2 at Juravinski Hospital for their outstanding and loving care of our mother during her stay there.  We and Mum were blessed to have you. As per her wishes, Cremation has taken place.

A Celebration of Shirley’s amazing life will be held in Spring of 2024.  As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Kidney Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
