Obituary of Wilfred "Wilf" Ernest Rogers

28 MAY 1930 – 12 NOVEMBER 2023

Passed away Sunday, November 12, 2023 at Ridgeview Long Term Care Home with his loving wife and best friend, Susan Rogers (nee Edwards) of 24 years by his side.

Loving father of two sons, John Rogers (Deceased 2018) and his wife, Laura Rogers of Springvale and William Rogers and his wife, Helen Ferkul of Kemble.  Proud Grandfather of Christopher, Robert, Richard (Stacy), Andrea (Mark) Benjamin, Steven (Jen), Jennifer (Thanasi).  Great Grandfather of Clark, Elliot, Henry, Madeline.  Last of 6 siblings including his twin, Winnifred.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Fondly remembered by Sisters and Brothers-in-Law, Ernest (deceased 2014), Lynda, Dan, Beth, Joan Edwards.  Special memories by Nieces and Nephew-in-Law Kaight (Pat), Mike (Natty), Victoria Rehner, Nancy Edwards, and Special Great Nephews, Liam and Jase Lahaie. 

Thank you to his Good Friend, Retiree, Joe Connors, for the many breakfast outings and visiting at the LTC.  Wilf will also be missed by his friend and volunteer buddy, Robert Bean.

Wilf was a dedicated Constable with the Hamilton Police Services for 37 years, retiring December 31, 1988.  As part of his job for many years, Wilf looked after Police Minor Baseball and Hockey as well as organizing the Police Hockey League.  Wilf was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #622 Stoney Creek for 30 years, holding all board and executive positions except President.  Proudly volunteering for the Poppy Campaign, Veterans’ Funerals, Colour Party and helping at many other Functions.  He was also an avid Square Dancer with the Waterdown Village Squares where he met his wife, Susan. They enjoyed travelling the world, social dancing and playing Euchre.  Wilf volunteered countless hours with the Stoney Creek Community Food Bank for 25 years where he enjoyed helping the less fortunate and always was amazed by the generosity of the community.  Modestly, Wilf and Susan were awarded Stoney Creek Citizens of the Year for 2015.

Thank You to all the PSW’s, Recreation Team, Nurses and Staff of Ridgeview, Gage House, for their Kind, Compassionate Care of Wilf for over 3 years.

Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Wednesday from 3-7 p.m.  Wilf’s Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow.  In lieu of flowers donations to the Royal Canadian Legion Br.# 622 or Stoney Creek Food Bank would be appreciated by the family.
