Obituary of Lois June Goldsmith

Lois June Goldsmith (née Grant) passed peacefully at the Arbour Creek Care Centre in Hamilton on September 27th, in her 94th year.  Predeceased by husband George (1996).  Loving mother to Brenda and Mike (Linda).  Cherished grandma to Shannon (Doug), Kris (Shawna) and Katie.  Great-grandma to Madelyn, Ashlyn and baby Jacob.

Lois was born in Hamilton to Alexander John and Myrtle Alice Grant (née Bowler). Lois was ‘baby sister’ to twins Doris and the late Don, and eldest sister, the late Mae (Kelly). Lois worked in the office at Dofasco, where she excelled in her role in the accounting department. She met her future husband George at ‘The Bright Spot’ restaurant in Hamilton where he worked as a cook and they married in 1950.

After their children were born, Lois stayed active in league bowling and ceramics. She returned to work in accounts payable and payroll for a number of smaller Hamilton companies.  Lois retired from Slater Steel in 1989. Still needing to keep busy, she joined Laura Secord as a sales associate and ‘Master Display Case Cleaner’ at Mapleview Mall until she retired for the last time.  Lois will be missed and is fondly remembered by many.

Lois always loved her own pets and those of others. In her later years at Arbour Creek, she had her faithful dog/confidant ‘Fynn’ with her at all times. She will be missed by staff and residents and will be remembered for her ever-present smile.  Special thanks to Miss Ruby and the Recreation Team for their great programs (Lois really liked the Touch Table) and to Nurse Hetty and the Nursing and Personal Care Team for their care and support over the last few years.
