Obituary of Rozina Doma
Wife, Mother, Mati, Great-grandmother, daughter, sister, friend. These words only merely begin to describe who our beloved Mother and Mati was to us. How do you capture sunshine, rainbows and unending smiles wrapped in unconditional love in a jar? If we could, we would then perhaps be able to capture the essence of this beloved woman. Our Mother, our Mati was our everything - our sun and our moon who kept us all in perfect orbit around her. Her love had no bounds. She was our greatest cheerleader and confidant. Our strong, courageous, compassionate, intelligent, and beautiful Mother and Mati.
With much love and broken hearts, we share that surrounded by the love of her family, our Rozina Doma left this world on March 30 to join her beloved husband Ivan who left us in December 2022 to prepare the way for her. Our strong and courageous Mother and Mati left her home in Prekmurje Slovenia in 1959 along with her twin sister Vera to cross the ocean to make a better life for themselves. Our Mother met our Father in 1960 and from then onward became inseparable for the next 61 years for they ended up working in their businesses side by side. Together they worked hard and played hard. Their generosity had no bounds - towards their children, grandchildren, family, and friends. Family gave our Mother purpose. Nothing was more important to our Mother than her family. Family, friends and food - our Mother was a phenomenal hostess. Her famous chicken noodle soup, schnitzel, goulash and fried chicken are some of our family's favourites. Our Mother never cooked just enough for one meal, she always made sure there was enough food for everyone to take home at least one more meal for another day. Our Mother also loved playing Black Queen - she was known for being a passionate card player.
While our Mother has left us to join our Father, we continue the journey they started together many years ago. We will endeavour to make her proud, to continue her legacy and to heal our broken hearts. Our Mother leaves her children, John Doma (Margaret), Rosemary Podlovics (Joe) and Jane Glavac (Andy), her much loved 11 grandchildren and cherished 12 great-grandchildren. Along with her brother Joe Fotivec (Elizabeth), our Mother also leaves many family and friends in Canada and Slovenia who will feel her loss.
We will do our best to honour her well known parting request to "be happy". And we shall. One day. Nazdravje Mamma. Ljubimo te. Se vidimo.
