My deepest condolences to the family of whom I have met most of you. How does one condense 45 years of friendship into a few years? I have so many memories of our lives meshing together starting as work colleagues in the Small Business Department of the Economic Development Ministry of BC. We met in 1977 when I delivered a small business business workshop for women that Susan attended. I was starting a new career in a new city and she recommended me for a position in her above department. It was small and we were the the only women. She taught me about working in a government job where women weren't especially welcome. We joked about the scars we had from those experiences and shared margaritas across the street in the hotel cocktail bar when things got too nutty!
Although there was 7 years difference in our ages and I had a young family, she became part of our family too. We were also neighbours on Bowen Island who shared a property line and island living. My husband and I tore down the old outhouse that accompanied the cottage before she build her house. We camped on ours for many years and ran a hose to her old lovely cottage and later house. We retired earlier than her to our new house on Bowen and tried very carefully to not intrude on her sight lines up the Sound.
We always had each other's backs and and I can say that even though she moved to Ottawa twice, I visited her there several times and enjoyed visiting all her homes. When we moved off Island to Vancouver, we kept in touch of course with lunches when she came to town and also going to symphony concerts for several years. I have lost a forever friend.
'When you know each other's stories and dreams like they were your own.. When you can hardly remember a time you weren't friends, and you know no matter what, you always will be... that's the kind of friend you are to me."

I just received the Bowen Island Undercurrent and was saddened to read that Susan passed away March 17th. We met on Bowen Island a few years ago. We both attended a small group to talk about Dementia and the Caregiver. You become very close over time as feelings and frustrations are exchanged. I also was involved with the CCRA Tax Incentive Program that offered Tax Preparation Services. Susan, being a Library volunteer, was also involved and acted as hostess. Always gracious, kind and considerate. Her beautiful smile lit up a room. I only knew Susan for a short while but she left a lasting impression on my soul.
Sincere sympathy to the family.

I first met Susan during our university days in Winnipeg when we both joined the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, When Susan moved to B.C. a while later, I was so fortunate to able to reconnect with her when I moved there. We began a wonderful friendship that lasted for many years, through many ups and downs in our lives. When she met her dear Michael, I was fortunate enough to be included in their lives. When they decided to marry, I was again fortunate to be included in their wedding party in that lovely little chapel in Richmond, B.C. Michael's early passing was so very tragic but they faced his journey together with courage and hope. After Michael passed Susan focused on her stellar career, which would take her from B.C. to Ottawa to B.C. and back to Ottawa and to her beautiful retirement home on Bowen Island. Because of my job, I was lucky enough to be able to visit Sue quite often and were able to stay in touch, so when I married after returning to Winnipeg, she returned the favour and was in my wedding party. I have so many memories of our time spent together and will treasure them always; from being the "backseat" passenger in Michael's MG to the trip to Barbados to all our visits through the years in Vancouver, Ottawa and Bowen Island. Her last visit to Winnipeg was for a Commerce reunion and her friend and Zeta sister Holly and I were able to have a lovely visit with her. Susan was a remarkable woman - extremely intelligent, pragmatic, hard- working as well as a very compassionate person. I remember her looking after her Aunt and her affairs in Winnipeg as well as those of her dear sister Ardith. I could not have asked for a better friend. Even though in the last few years we hadn't spent the same amount of time together as in the past, I will miss her so very much! She is a part of the story of my life in so many ways, so, she will always be with me.

I met Susan when we started Commerce at the U of M in September, 1966. She was one of those people who you might not see for years but when you did reconnect it was like no time had passed. Any time spent with Susan involved fun, something interesting and had that special Susan flair. She had many talents but her analytic mind always amazed me.
Four of us went by train to Montreal in September 1967 to visit Expo 67 and had a wonderful 50th reunion in Winnipeg in September 2017. We were fortunate to manage another get together in 2019 when she hosted us on Bowen and we spent a couple of days in Vancouver. She was in good spirits and we were blessed to have that time together. I will miss you dear friend.

I was Susan's private Caregiver. I cherished every moment we had together. We first started going off to movies and dinner, trips to Casa Loma and the Distillery District to name a few. We told eachother secrets that no one will ever find out. We were kindred souls, and had so much in common. She was so smart and beautiful with that twinkle in her eye. As her disease progressed, it was very sad and I wished there was more I could do to help her. She was so young to be taken from us, but at least she in a peacefull place. I felt very close to Susans family, as we connected almost daily. Going to Sheri and Rick's for lunch was one of her favorite thing to do. She loved music and riding in the car. Sheri always had a beautiful lunch waiting for us. I will never forget Susan, who I can honestly call one of my best friends. My deepest condolences to all of Susan's family and friends.

Goodbye my dear friend. She was loved by many. The photo I have added was taken on one of our final outings, on her 75th birthday last September, not long before her precipitous decline.

Susan was like an aunt to me. She was one of my mom's best friends and a presence throughout my life. She was wise, analytical and thoughtful.
When I briefly moved to Vancouver, she graciously let me live in her condo in North Vancouver temporarily. I loved visiting her on Bowen on the weekends.
I will miss her.
May her memory be a blessing.
