Obituary of Joan Felker

October 24, 1934 – March 3, 2023

Joan Elaine Felker (Alger), resident of the United Mennonite Home, departed her loving family on March 3, 2023 at the age of 88 years.   

Born in Hamilton Ontario, Joan was mother to Douglas Felker (Joyce), Diane Gear (Gerard), Elaine Poirier (Ronald), Stephen Felker (Cindy), Wayne Felker (Julie), and Eileen Comley (Dave). She was a proud and loving Grandmother to 15 and Great-Grandmother to 6.    

Together with her late husband Norman, Joan raised their children with love in London ON, Labrador City, NL and Stoney Creek, ON.  

Joan also leaves to mourn sister-in-law Shirley and brother-in-law Ray Spoelstra, brother-in-law Lorne Felker and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  Joan is predeceased by her husband Norman, sister Alma Quinn (Ross) and sister-in-law Ruby Johnson (Alvin).  

Upon returning to Stoney Creek Ontario in 1978, Joan worked as a cashier at the Big V Drug Store and Shoppers Drug Mart, located on King Street, Stoney Creek.  Joan was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 622, the Rebekah Lodge and the Stoney Creek Lioness Club.  Joan enjoyed visiting and phone calls from family and friends, great food, playing cards, attending church services and functions, playing the piano, bowling, knitting, watching the Toronto Blue Jays and the Hamilton Tiger Cats, and dancing to a polka or the Bird Dance.

Visitation will be held at the Donald V Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, on Monday, March 6, 2023 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.  with Funeral Service to follow at 1 p.m. Interment will immediately follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Mental Health Association may be made in Joan’s name.
