Obituary of Salvatore (Sam) Petrella

January 1, 1936 - November 27, 2022

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Salvatore Petrella at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Loving and cherished husband of Agata Petrella of 62 years. Predeceased by his parents Maria and Luigi Petrella. Loving and proud father of Luisa (Rudy) Conti and Luigi (Rosina) Petrella. Proud grandfather of Joshua, Jonathan (Shelby), Alanah (Eric), Jessica (Brett), and Cassandra (Stefano). Predeceased by his brother Pietro (Lucy) Petrella and sister Pia and Guido Zavarella. He will also be dearly missed by many family and friends in Canada, United States, and Italy.

Sam was born January, 1 1936 in Pratola Peligna, Abruzzi, and came to Canada in 1957 to start his family with his beloved wife Agata. Sam was a devoted employee at Stelco as a Millwright for over 30 years. He was also a skilled home builder across Hamilton. He was a hard worker and taught his children and grandchildren many valuable life skills. He loved traveling and gardening, among many other hobbies. Sam was an active member of the Knights of Columbus , where he was involved with the Winona Peach Festival and parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Parish for over 50 years.

The family would like to thank family physician Dr. Chris Ambis and the nursing staff on the 7th surgical floor, Mary Grace Wing of St. Joseph’s Hospital for their wonderful care.

Friends will be received at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive,  Stoney Creek on Monday, December 5, 2022 from 3 – 8 p.m.  Vigil Prayers will be offered at 7:45 p.m.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Parish on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at 10 a.m.  Entombment to follow at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to a charity of your choice.  Notes of sympathy and condolence may be made at www.donaldvbrown.ca
