My thoughts and prayers are with the Gilmour Family.
Dick, I will miss you so much and our Saturday afternoons at the VSL. You are such an inspiration to us all. You always saw the good in life and I thank you for helping me get through those tough times when I lost Danny.
I will always treasure the good times and the laughter we shared.
Love you my Friend!
Gail

Remembrance Day 2020 was a Remembrance Day to Remember for my scotch buddy Richard. After celebrating his 90th birthday with a flight on the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum Harvard a few weeks earlier, his love of warplanes was granted another dream.
Back in June, at our first "off-site" covid scotch night in Richard's "backyard", he brought out a model kit for a Lancaster bomber. He explained that his brother-in-law had started to build the model, however, had passed away unexpectedly before he got very far with the kit. His sister gave the kit to Richard, who had hoped to complete the model at some point. He asked if anyone was interested in building it for him. I jumped at the opportunity, but told him that it would be a fall/winter project for me.
Enter Eric Taylor, an ex-colleague of mine at the City of Hamilton, and Facebook friend. Shortly after I took the model kit from Richard, doesn't Eric post some pictures of a Lancaster bomber model that he had just completed!! I jokingly asked him if he wanted to build another one for my dear 90-year-old scotch buddy.
Imagine my surprise when Eric, who turns out to be quite an avid modeler, said that he would love to build the model for Richard (whom he had never even met before!). Then, imagine my further surprise when Eric sends me photos of the completed model one week before Remembrance Day!!
Eric and I presented Richard with the Lancaster model that morning, immediately following the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Veteran's Service League.
Truly a Remembrance Day to Remember for Richard!!
Godspeed Richard, we shall hoist a wee dram in honour of a great man, and beloved friend.

Thank you for sharing this story Al . I know my father appreciated everything you did for him and he was so proud of the model that you presented to him
