I was just a new boy from a different country silently playing chess at Legends. I remember John walking upto me and saying "You think you can beat me?" . We played a couple of games and I taught him some moves that were new to his knowledge. We exchanged cards and I always had someone I knew! Once I remember saying "The wings can be better" and he made sure he gave me the best wings in the house. The love that I got from John in a new land gave me a sense of hope. I will miss you John! RIP

I used to be an ice skater like John. I met John about 2 years ago at the Saltfleet Figure Skating Club. I happen to just be there and they knew I was a skater. They ask me and John to put together a number for the figure skating ice show and we stole the show! I wish I had been able to see him earlier before this evil thing happened to him.

We met Johnny at our cottages on Doe Lake. He and Pam were visiting Dianne and Dave MacLean and other members of his family. In his youth he spent many happy days at the cottages with family and friends. He was very family orientated and they will sorely miss him as will his many friends, We, the whole Eadie family, send our sincere condolences to his family. Our thoughts are with you.

My best memory of Johnny is when I dated Bill and we took him to the CNE. He would have been around 8 or so. Such a sweet boy.
Sincere condolences to your family. His memories will keep him close to you.

John and I met during rehearsals for a skating show in Australia when I was 18 and he was 22 . Both being away from our homes and new to the company, we became fast friends. We went on to work, and often room together, in many other countries and locations for years to follow.
Stairway to Heaven and anything by Pink Floyd was the soundtrack of our lives back then. I called him Wigs, he called me Tam. I'm from South Carolina, and I recall he never lost interest in mimicking my accent. We were very much like brother and sister. I'm sure we must have argued on occasion, but I have no recollection of it. I only have happy, sweet memories that I will always keep with me. He had a very fun-loving way about him. Most often kind, sometimes feisty, he loved to tease me. He was a very special part of my life and my skating family. And, he still is. It's been many, many years since I last saw him, but his smile and his laugh will remain, as always, printed on my heart.

John and I were friends during our adolescence. Our love of figure skating was our bond. I have many fond memories of him as my partner during my many dance tests, skating carnivals and sharing many rides to the rink. Our friendship grew outside of skating and we had many good times with mutual friends in the backyard and pool of my parent's home. As time wore on, our lives went in different directions, both of us off to separate ice shows and countries. Even though we had not seen each other in years, John was there to support me at the funeral of my mother's untimely death. But that was John.... his kindness was one of his best attributes. That and his constant smile.
We wish our deepest condolences to his wife, Pam and to the rest of his loving family.

This just isn’t right. I have known John and Pam for about 20 years. Pam is right. John was larger than life. I met John after his figure skating career, but he was always good at working a crowd. He was charismatic and could always make you laugh. I am sure there are many of us who have memorable “Wigs” stories.
Although I hadn’t seen him in a few years, I always believed the next time I went to Hamilton, I would go into the bar and have a drink and he would be there. We would all then have drinks and toast to absent friends. And now he is one of them.
So Wiggy, thanks for being a good friend. I have no doubt you are skating, golfing and having some drinks with absent friends in Heaven. Say hi for me.

Sad to here the passing of John, and my condolences to the family. John was my neighbour and we both went to glover road school. Every year we had a ice rink in the back yard and everyone would come over. I learned what a toe loop was and a saukal was. We both agreed that we thought Ron Shaver was a better skater than Cranston. Well every time I look down the back field I will always remember the Wignal family and John.

My daughters all skated at Dundas Figure Skating Club. We knew John in his early years of figure skating. He always had a smile on his face and words of encouragement for younger skaters. Suzanne, Cheryl, Cara and Cindy McQueen will always remember his smiling face
