It is with incredible sadness that I am learning of cika Rade's passing. My heart aches as I remember his and teta Mika's kindness at one of the most vulnerable times of my life. I came to Canada as a 17 year old, from a war torn former Yugoslavia with my parents, and started a difficult process of settling in a new country. There was no time to deal with trauma of the war, but time to push ahead full speed, looking for work, housing and registering for University. We were left to figure out this new life for ourselves, with no family to help us.
Cika Rade and teta Mika were one of those beautiful people who reached out to our family and helped with everything that they could. They guided my parents with advice and concrete help whenever we called upon them. They were compassionate, selfless and they opened their heart and home to us. I could list numerous examples of their selfless acts of kindness, but the one that is deeply carved in my heart is when cika Rade drove me to Mohawk College in February of 1994 during a heavy winter storm, to write a test that was a prerequisite to register to McMaster University. I don't recall passing many cars on our way to the testing site, streets were covered in snow, the weather was beyond unsafe to travel, but this beautiful man risked the elements to help me not miss this important test. This is something you only do for your own kids, but he did it for me.
Three decades have passed, I created a new life for myself, but Rade and Mika Tepsic will forever be in my heart as those beautiful, honorable, selfless and kind people that were there for me in my time of great need.
I will never forget your kindness cika Rade.
I will always remember you with love and gratitude.
May You Rest in Peace and may God give your beautiful family strength to cope with your premature passing.
With love,
Snezana Jevtic and family
