Obituary of Elizabeth (Betty) Esther Devenish
Passed away peacefully on August 3rd, 2022 in her 92nd year. Beloved wife, of 54 years, to the late Peter Devenish. Betty was born on March 19th, 1931 to William and Christina Howarth. She is predeceased by brother Charles Howarth, and son-in-law Ron Maxwell. Loving mother of Mary Maxwell, Beth (Gary) Boomhouer, Shirley Ann (Larry) Anderson, Deborah (Michael) Kavanagh and Scott (Mary) Devenish. Affectionately known as Nanny to her 15 grandchildren: Christopher, Heather, Mark, Stephen, Jason, Michael, Shane, Matthew, Kirk, Adam, Ryan, Kraig, David, Emily, and Erin; great-grandmother to 22; and great-great-grandmother to 1. Betty is survived by her sisters Shirley and Lillian and will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Betty took pride in caring for her family and home and was a lifelong Montreal Canadiens fan. Betty will be remembered as a true “lady” who was kind, strong, and supportive. She enjoyed reading, knitting, and brightening your day with her witty expressions.
The family would like to thank the staff of Orchard Terrace Care Centre for the exemplary care and compassion provided to their mother over the past year.
Visitation at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, on Monday, August 8th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Incarnation of Our Blessed Lord, 400 Pottruff Road N, Hamilton, on Tuesday, August 9th at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Oakville Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery.
