Obituary of Iriene Violet Walker

(Chasty)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Iriene Violet Walker (Chasty) in her 93rd year.  She has finally received her fairy wings.  Iriene will be greatly missed by her best friend and husband Robert (Bob) and her children Christine and Douglas who she loved and was very proud of.  She is also survived by her sisters Joan Jervis, Genevieve Heinz, and Nancy Basilio. Predeceased by her parents Walter and Anne Chasty (Mielko), her sister Ivy Pawlik, and her brothers Jackie and Charlie Chasty.  She is survived by many nieces and nephews especially Amy Taylor and her cousins Helen Woodcroft and Carol Andrews.  Our thanks for all their love and support.

Iriene was active in the Girl Guides of Canada for over 50 years as a Brownie leader, Stoney Creek District Commissioner, and a member of the Trefoil Guild.  She loved working with all of the girls in her Brownie pack.  She was a member of the Dofasco Retirees where she enjoyed bowling, euchre, and Mini Putt.  Along with her husband Bob, they planned and organized many bus trips.  For over 25 years, she was a member of the St. Eugene’s over 50 club where she and Bob enjoyed playing euchre every Thursday afternoon.

Iriene was known for her cooking especially her cabbage rolls and Christmas pudding. We all enjoyed when she put money in the Christmas pudding to see who got the most money.  She loved planning and organizing parties and doing crossword puzzles.

Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received by the family at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Sunday, August 7, 2022 between 1 and 5 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donations to the charity of your choice.
