Obituary of Helen Kathleen Lees

August 6, 1930 ~ July 4th 2022

It is with profound and deep sadness we announce the passing of Helen Kathleen Lees.  Helen entered into glory on Monday, July 4, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in her 92nd year.  A beautiful lady through and through.  Helen had a gregarious friendly nature and always wanted to give you a hug.  She always had a kind word to say and made you smile with her wonderful charm. Helen loved a hot cup of coffee in the morning followed with her beloved country western music. An avid book reader, #1 WWE wrestling fan, Tailor, gardener and cook extraordinaire to her delicious Xmas fruit cake she lovingly made from scratch to her scrumptious roast beef which she roasted in the oven all Sunday afternoon. Joined in eternity at last after 33 years to the day to her late and beloved husband Gordon Francis Lees (July 4th 1989).  Helen will be deeply and profoundly missed by her best friend and soulmate, youngest daughter Sharon Lees.  Also forever cherished and deeply missed by Betty Lees McBride, oldest daughter who mom nurtured into a talented water colour artist in her own right by showing her how to do kitty-cat line drawings as a young child.  Also deeply and lovingly missed by her middle daughter Jane Evans a talented craftswoman by trade, sewing homemade teddy bears, stained glass angels and creating beautiful beaded jewellery. There was always a special place in Helen’s heart for her one and only granddaughter Kelly Bruckner.  Helen will also be deeply and profoundly missed by her last surviving sister Jean Nault.  Helen will also be missed by all her wonderful nephews and nieces.  Many dearly beloved friends will deeply miss her such as the Hunter family and Shirley Broatch.  Absent from the body, present with the Lord.  Weeping may remain for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.  To be said of Helen to love another person is to love the song that is in their heart and to sing it to them when they have forgotten.  This is not a goodbye, but until we meet again.  A special thank you to all the beautiful nurses who cared for mom at St. Joseph’s Hospital and the ER, Internal Medicine Ward 4, Alternative medicine Ward 6 and Complex Care Ward 8.  True gratitude to Dr. Malla, Dr. Bielecki and special thank you to Dr. Hodge who restored Helen’s sight for 14 years.  Dr. Hodge you gave Helen truly remarkable vision and enhanced her quality of life and for that she is eternally grateful. Also a special thank you to Jenny Schultz, her wonderful counsellor at Alzheimer’s Society.  Also credit to be given to Michelle and Katan for their pharmacy expertise.  One day we will be reunited with Helen in heaven where all the colours will bleed into one.  Cremation has taken place.  Friends will be received at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive,  Stoney Creek on Monday, July 25th from 12 noon until the time of Funeral Service in the Chapel at 1 p.m.  Interment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donation to Alzheimer’s Society would be greatly appreciated.  Notes of sympathy and condolence may be made at www.donaldvbrown.ca
