Obituary of Doris Jane Freeman

(Lowden)

August 6, 1925 – May 14, 2022

Passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family in her 97th year. Predeceased by her beloved husband Oliver in 2019. Cherished mother of Linda (Geoff Lowes), Florence (John Shabone), and Olla (Troy Smillie). Treasured grandmother of Michelle (Glenn Belliveau), Deborah MacDonald (Tony), Glenn MacDonald, and great-grandmother (cow-grandma) to Brooke, Emma (Roel), Laura, Julia and Avery. Predeceased by her parents Arthur and Myrtle (Webber) Lowden. Survived by her brother Andrew Lowden. Dear Aunt to Nora (Tom Phalen), Bruce, and “Auntie” to Georgiana (Len Welsh). Special friend to Tricia who would walk over two afternoons per week for a visit and cup of tea, and Kristen for the many visits and hugs after work.

Mom worked tirelessly on the family farm alongside Oliver since they were married in 1947. Up until the age of 96, she was still driving, cutting her lawn, working flower beds, and canning preserves. She was famous for her amazing dinners and couldn't be beat on her homemade bread, rolls, butter tarts and chocolate cake which always took first place at the fair. She could master any craft including sewing, knitting sweaters, quilting, stained glass and ceramics. A lifetime member of Binbrook United Church she volunteered for so many tasks as well as baking countless pies and waiting on tables for many of the church suppers. Her energy and vitality will be missed by her many friends, neighbours and community members.

As a mom, she was always there for us showing her love and support for anything we did. As a wife, she was devoted to dad and was always by his side (even until the day he died). Mom and dad always had so much fun together and would always walk holding hands. Mom's pride, joy and passion was her family and she was always so happy to see them when they came for visits. She inspired everyone she knew with her love, generosity and gratitude, and that love was always reflected back.

A special thank you to LHIN, CBI and Bayshore for their kindness, compassion and care – not only to mom, but the family as well. Friends will be received at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday, May 19th  from 10 a.m. until the time of Funeral Service at 11 a.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel.  The service will be livestreamed through the Funeral Home Facebook page.
