Obituary of Radovan Jovic

Radovan “Roy” Jovic

It’s with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Radovan “Roy” Jovic on February 6, 2022.  Roy was born in Bosnia to Petar and Vesilinka Jovic on April 29th, 1954.  With his parents and little sister Radmila {Sekana}, they moved to the Serbian capital of Belgrade where he grew up.   At 20 he met Bozica, married her and soon after their first child, Petar was born.   Roy dreamt of a brighter future for his family and this led them to Canada in 1978.  They arrived with all their worldly possessions in a single suitcase and hearts and minds full of opportunity to build a great new life.   Roy was a driven, hard worker full of ambition and even though he had little means, was able to start his own family business.   The business grew over time as did the family with a daughter; Nada born in 1983.   Roy was a loving father and provided so much for his family.   His hard work had also afforded him the ability to indulge in his passions of travel, boating and hunting.   He enjoyed these with family and friends whenever he could.  In 2003 he and the family suffered great loss, losing Bozica to a lengthy battle with illness.   Roy was a strong, proud man and maintained a hard exterior, not allowing for anyone to see his pain and vulnerabilities.   In time he was able to again find happiness with his new partner, Fatima Pajezetovic.  They began a new chapter of life together and she brought him comfort and love.   She took great care of him and supported him when his health began to deteriorate and with the immense heartache of losing Nada in 2020.  She helped steer him through his grief and challenges by being by his side every day, including his final day.

“As a boy I idolized you, I was certain no one had a dad like mine, your strength, bravery and an ability to build or fix anything made you so cool to me!   As I grew older, I realized your bravery and tough persona kept your fears and pain from the eyes of others. During mom’s illness and ultimate passing, your hurt was severe and affected everything in your life including our relationship.   We dealt with our pain as we did and although we spent so much time apart, we still had immense love and kept tabs on one another.   Time never affords us the opportunity to go backward but we did get a second chance when Levi and Lily came into our lives.   I’m very thankful you and your grandchildren were able to meet and your memory will remain to them.   To you, I’ll always be grateful for instilling in me the values of a strong man, to always protect my family, to carry my head high and never give up on the things that have meaning to me.  I always loved you Pop and wish you peace at rest with mom and Nada.   Love Petar”
