Obituary of Dr. Edith "Edita" Stepita

Dr. Edith Stepita (née Lorman)

October 21, 1932 - January 8, 2022

Edith (also known as Edita) died peacefully at home on January 8, 2022, in her 89th year, surrounded by family.

Loving mother of Dita (Dan) and Egon (Elena), and stepmother of Dagmar (the late Kevin) and the late Kathy. Cherished grandmother of Daniel, Christopher (Laura), and Rebecca (Jacky), and step-grandmother of Julia and Ryan. Beloved wife of the late Zdeno Stepita and the late Louis Ulicny. She was born in Czechoslovakia to the late Frantisek and Jolana Lorman and loved her siblings the late Valika and Ali. In 1968 she immigrated to Canada.

Edith was an impressive woman in many ways. She spoke Slovak, Czech, English, German, Hungarian, and Polish. She was passionate about her career as a family physician in Hamilton for over 30 years. She loved her patients, and the feeling was mutual.

She loved travelling, the outdoors, skiing, and golfing - but most of all she enjoyed her involvement in the church community. Her faith in Jesus is what brought joy to her life, and she was always excited to share it with others.

She loved her children and family wholeheartedly and was devoted to them, and will be greatly missed by her entire family and many friends in Canada and Slovakia.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Erin Gallagher; Mary-Ellen Shakeshaft (palliative care coordinator); Bayshore nurses Mark, Anne, and Rachel; and the entire team who cared for her so deeply during her final days.

A private Funeral Service will be held for immediate family at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home in Stoney Creek, and a memorial service will be planned for a later date. The Funeral Service will be streamed online on January 20, 2022 at 1:00 pm. A link will be provided at the Funeral Home website www.donaldvbrown.ca.  To watch the Funeral Service, please CLICK HERE. We would love to have your memories of Edith, and they can be shared on this website.
