Leo, Yana, and Eva ~ she will always be with you, and a part of who you are. Teta Elvira had such an infectious joy for life that she shared with you, and all of us too. She was always laughing and enjoying the people in her life, whether they were family, friends, or customers at Elvira’s Tavern. She had a strong sense of family, as was witnessed by her care of all of us, including Nono and Nona as they got older. I remember as a young child, spending Easter and Christmas there. She had those red tablecloths - with the white paper placemats, and she tore up another placemat or two – to make place cards with all of our names on them (in black magic marker). She always had a chocolate easter bunny for all of us. And as we got older? Perfume for the girls. (I can’t remember what the boys got). She could cook up a storm in what seemed a blink of an eye – and laugh the whole time she did! That table in the front room at Elvira’s – expanded to include all our kids. And she loved them all like she did us.
She was a special woman. A strong woman. A courageous woman. She believed in the strength of love and family. She shared it with all of us. She will be a part of all of us.
