I worked with Steve in the Hardware department at Sears in the Centre Mall for several years in the early 2000's. He used to call me 'Jennifer Juniper' amd would sing it when he'd see me.
He was famous for schooling us on all the jazz greats. He'd say to me, 'Watson, who's singing?' I would never know the answer, but it always seemed the answer was Anita Baker. So that became my answer every time he asked me who was singing.
He was also famous in our store for how many Sears accounts he would open. They were known as Rapid Credits, and you would earn a 'spiff' of either 1 or 3 dollars for each one you opened. He would rack so many up he would brag about the extra $100 he got on his pay check just from that! He would always ask if I was 'ofer' (0 for 0) in rapid credits. Which I usually was :)
Steve was always fun to work with and was happy to share his product knowledge with me, so I could tell a customer what a self propelled lawnmower did, or what BTU's stood for. Working there was one of my favourite jobs in my 20's and working with Steve was definitely one of the reasons! I'm sure he's up there enjoying all the Mateuse he can handle! Rest in Peace Steve!
