Obituary of Marion Ruth Watt

nee Start

After a long and wonderful life, our family is sad to announce the passing of Marion Ruth (Start) Watt on July 21, 2021 at the age of 97. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Morgan (2000). Proud and loving mother of Jim (Margo) Watt, Dianne (Rick) Rumney, and Betty (Dennis) Costello.  Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Carolyn (Spencer) Nicholson, Mike (Shelby) Watt, Carrie (Jerry) Chappell, Megan (Ian) Moorhouse, Chris Costello, and Brandon Costello.  Also loved by 7 great-grandchildren. Mom and Dad lived most of their married life in Tapleytown where they made many lifelong friends, and were very active members of Tapleytown United Church. They spent countless hours maintaining the building, and working on every activity that came along. How many years did Mom organize the church fund-raising dinners? Too many to count. Mom could do anything she put her mind to. She hosted our family Christmas Eve dinners until she was 84! She loved to bake and would bring mountains of goodies and pies to every family get together, making sure everyone went home with all their favourites.  She was also a wonderful seamstress, sewing for friends, family, and even several bridal parties—not to mention creating fabulous superhero Halloween costumes! She could knit and crochet and taught herself to decorate cakes when the grandchildren came along. Mom and Dad loved music and were great dancers. In their senior years, they even joined a square dancing group. They made sure we had music lessons and supported our band involvement. They also recognized the value of education and encouraged us to pursue post secondary education.  We were so very lucky to have Mom and Dad as the foundation for our lives. We'd like to thank the United Mennonite Home in Vineland for the wonderful care they provided for Mom, especially during these difficult COVID times. Special thanks also to our cousin, Marlene Curno, for her love and support, visiting Mom every week for many, many years. She provided lots of laughs and stories which Mom absolutely loved! We will think of Mom every day and remember all the fun, love, and family values she brought to us from the beginning to the end. Cremation has taken place.  Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, on Saturday, July 24th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. (Masks are mandatory while indoors) A private interment will take place in Tapleytown Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Mennonite Home, Vineland or a charity of your choice. Online condolences and notes of sympathy may be left at www.donaldvbrown.ca
