I met Chuck in 1981 when he joined our CIBC baseball team. A banker who attended Chuck’s church told him of our struggles and he came out to see if we wanted his help. He was in his early 40’s and the rest of us were in our 20’s. We really weren’t a good team until Chuck was recruited to come out and pitch and play some first base for us. His knuckleball was legendary and he had more baseball knowledge than anyone I’d ever met. He made everyone around him a better player. From the day Chuck joined us we either won the league championship or made the finals for the next 7 years.
More important than his baseball skills was that he was just a really good guy. Whether you were a good player or the 14th man, he socialized with everyone and was your friend. He related well to everyone and was a great friend and teammate. He will be missed and thanks for the memories.

Dianne, Michelle and family,
I just wanted to share a couple of memories from my treasure house of "Chuck memories": From his "Hey Kiddo" to his lilting "Paasttorr Jooo-Aaanne" you knew if Chuck was calling, there was going to be humour, challenging thoughts, stories and love. Chuck left an imprint on me and my family's life that will not be forgotten. He loved excellence and strove for it in every part of his work, social and spiritual life. His broad smile and congeniality made him a favourite visitor to all our special family functions. When I shared in ministry at a church he attended, he was an avid, faithful, supporter. During the times our family walked through difficult circumstances, Chuck came alongside us. He was my Dad's best friend. They started by sharing a love for sports, their jobs at Dofasco and eventually their faith in Jesus Christ. It brought them closer than ever. And it will be what reunites them. We miss and treasure Chuck's presence here, but look forward to another day when the separation is no longer. Our hearts are with yours,
Rev. Jo-Anne (Clark) and Charlie Thomas

Dear Dianne and Michelle,
I am so sorry to hear of Chuck's passing. After receiving the news I started to think back, remembering that Chuck and I have been friends for over 65 years! We also worked together at Dofasco for many years. We have been through some tough times, but mostly good times. Chuck was a guy that you could always depend on if you needed help, or friendly advice. I will never forget Chuck. Marie, Julie, Cindy, and I send our deepest condolences.

Chuck came onto ,my team, when he first began to play ball with us. I asked Chuck were would he like to play he heartly said put me anywhere. So l asked him if he could play Rover he said sure no problem. it was not till half the season was over that l found out that he had knee replacements. I asked him is there another place you would like to play. His reply was no the other guy's are set in there positions and l am ok.. " mine you he made a lot of good plays not showing any problems with his knee's.". Chuck was a very likable guy to play with. Always friendly and happy go lucky.
Many heart felt feelings go out to Mary and family.

My deepest condolences to you and your family, Dianne. I first met Chuck and you in 2010 when I joined the Olde Sports slo-pitch league. He offered to drive carless me to the our games, often with a cheery "Your chariot awaits!" That's the kind of person he was: a generous, funny, upbeat, always supportive guy! When he could no longer play, he still came to the games to coach and scorekeep and help out where he could. I will miss you, Chuck, and my heart goes out to you, Dianne!

I am so sorry to hear of Chuck's passing. We were team mates a few times in the HOSSPA slo-pitch league. He always kept us laughing, he was trying to teach me his pitches once, and that knuckleball as well! I am not a pitcher, but he was kind and patient with me but I was totally clueless!! Thank you for that special memory Chuck. My condolences to Diane and your family, thinking of you at this time.

I knew Chuck via the Hamilton Olde Sports Slow Pitch League. Unfortunately, we never got to play on the same team but in any interaction I had with Chuck, he was always friendly and struck me as a true gentleman. He was an excellent ballplayer & will be missed & remembered by the HOSSPA League. My sympathies go out to his family.
