To the Dear Family of Allan,
I did not know Allan as you did, but he and I practiced law together and had, over the past decade, a some files together. And, from time to time we would speak on a personal level.
I can say the following about Allan, based upon my personal experience:
1) Allan was a helper. Allan wasn't one of those litigators looking to endlessly fight - instead, he was very much focused on helping his clients get past their troubles. He understood the role a good lawyer plays in assisting clients, by looking at the bigger picture;
2) Allan was a gentleman lawyer. Though he worked hard for his clients, my experience of him was that he remained on-point; he argued facts and avoided making things personal, while at the same time remaining passionate about his client's case; and
3) Allan was a kind man. Allan knew my father, and when my father passed away in 2009, Allan made a point of reaching out to me and sharing with me his memories of my father. And, from that day forward, whenever Allan and I would meet at the courthouse or elsewhere he would always take the time to have a quick chat.
If someone were to ask me to describe Allan in one word, it would certainly be the word Kind. I don't think anyone who ever met him could deny this fact about him.
He will be missed.

Words cannot express what a profound loss I and my family feel about losing Allan.
We were grade school mates, lived in the same neighbourhood for years and continued a nearly life long friendship. He was my lawyer and my rock, with always a word of common sense in trying times. We often bet a steak dinner on the outcomes of projects we worked on. He won more than lost! Still cannot believe he is gone.
My most fun memory of Alan goes back to Grade 3 at Lake Avenue School. The way to school back then was through a muddy path in a field. Alan thought it especially amusing to come up behind me and other girls and give a slight knock to the back of our knees. In my case, I fell into the mud and had to go to school covered in dirt. I did not forgive him! Rascal.
We competed with each other in school. He was a grade ahead and when he was selected as valedictorian one year I received it the next year, not to be outdone.
Memories. My love and sympathy to Gail and her family for both myself and the Sears clan. He knew us all!

Allan was a wonderful human being! Those who had the privilege of knowing him were enriched by his kind and generous spirit and were proud to call him 'friend'. Allan always spoke fondly of his family and openly shared stories of days gone by. When calling his office on a Summer's day, one may have learned he had taken the day off to tend to his garden...a pastime he loved dearly. I shall always remember Allan as a man of many talents and one who lived his life with honesty, integrity and grace.
May he rest in peace.

I started my law practice in Hamilton knowing very few people locally. Allan made me feel connected with the community with entertaining stories about the city and our various colleagues, attending social events together, and sharing his network with me. We got to know each other over the years; attending MMA fights, following the Raptors, and most recently serving together as directors of Stoney Creek Community Housing. My deepest condolences. Rest in peace Allan, you will be missed.
