Obituary of Slawomir Prominski

Born March 15, 1956, Died April 12, 2021.

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our Swavic, a loving husband, dad, and poppy in his 65th year.  Survived by his wife and best friend Ellen, together nearly 40 years, and his children and children in law, Jessica (Mike) and Lucas (Erin) who will keep his silly stories alive. Nora and Theo, his favourite little people, will miss their Poppy immensely. His fur babies Daisy and Duke will miss all the snuggles and kisses. Also survived by his only sister, Barb (Roman) and her family, stepfather Edward and mother-in-law Velma, in laws Pat & Dan, John & Marilyn, Thom & Martha and Don (deceased) & Colleen.  We know Swavic will be welcomed into heaven by his parents Kostek and Irena, and father-in-law Jack.

A Hamilton man through and through, having immigrated here in his early life with his parents and sister from Poland.  Before meeting Ellen, he had two passions, his black 1976 Corvette and his Levi’s blue jeans and denim jacket.  He was a proud retiree of Stelco (US Steel) and Cathedral High School (HWCDSB). Anyone who knew him, knows he loved Corvettes and had a 78 Pace Car, gifted to him from his children, the newest of the three he owned in his life. He lived for hot weather and basking in the sun, making silly faces at his grandchildren, and was an avid clock collector. He was easy-going and made friends easily despite protests to attend social events. He was a great listener, and highly organized...most of the time.

Most importantly he was the definition of a standup guy, a generous man, always cheering on the underdog, and supporting his family any way he could. His absolute delight was his family, gathering with his family for a meal, a swim at Puerto Backyarda or a weekend morning visit or afternoon drop in.  His face would just light up at the sight of his grandchildren, Nora and Theo!  We are thankful for this time we had with him as our children’s Poppy after living with early onset Dementia for the last 6 years, we were not certain how long we would have.

Our Swavic will always be remembered as a kind man and a dear friend to so many who were grateful to know him, lifelong friends and newer ones alike.  His Best Man Serge, who has been like a brother, checking in, meeting for a cup of coffee or some wings and beer.  While at Stelco, Swavic made lifelong friends in Don (deceased), Larry (deceased), Doug, Bob, Jimmy, Brian and Glen who continued to gather when able to and catch up on old times.

Swavic was especially grateful for his friendships with Dan and Sylvia, Ron and Karen, Sebastian and Susie, Cynthia and Paul and Denise and Ron (recently deceased R.I.P.) and neighbours Bob and Deanna and Steve and Gina who have all provided immense support these past several weeks during sickness and hospitalization.  There are many, many family, friends, and neighbours whose prayers, encouragement and support have lifted our spirits and will continue to help us through our time of grief.

We would like to thank the entire team at the Juravinski CICU for their loving care during Swavic’s hospitalization.  Even in such overwhelming conditions in the hospital and community they were compassionate and so very kind.

Swavic would often jokingly check this very section of the newspaper to make sure he was not listed and said, I am not in here, so all is good.  We are sad to share he is here now but proud to offer a look at the man we loved so dearly.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, in accordance with the Bereavement Authority of Ontario facial mask/coverings are required.  Please visit the funeral home website to register your attendance for services due to limited space availability.  Visitors will only be accepted by scheduled appointment and will be asked to wait in their vehicle until their allotted time. Friends will be received at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Friday, April 16th from 2-5 p.m with Rosary at 4:30 p.m.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 17th at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church at 10 a.m.  Cremation to follow.  A private family interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery at a later date.

In Lieu of flowers we would be grateful for any donation towards an Anti-Bullying Leader Scholarship started in his name.  Cheques to this effect may be sent directly to Cathedral High School, 30 Wentworth Street N, Hamilton ON L8L 8H5 in memory of Swavic Prominski (Donations over $25 will be provided a Tax Receipt)

You will live forever in our hearts, rest now my darling… until we meet again.
