Vito Grassi

Obituary of Vito Grassi

July 5, 1943-March 14, 2021

It is with great sadness, we announce that Vito passed away peacefully with his family by his side after fighting a valiant battle with cancer. He is predeceased by parents Paolo and Emilia Grassi and survived by his wife and closest friend, Joan (McLeod) and children Marina (Paul) and Paolo (Tammy). He was an awesome Nonno to Chiara, Alessandra, Olivia and Arthur. He is survived by siblings Maria, Nicola, Giuseppe, Rosanna, Pietro, Luigi, Adele, Stefano, Bruno and many nieces and nephews. Born in Positano, Italy, Vito came to Canada at age 30. He was a wise man and a perfectionist with many talents: commercial fisherman, sailor, furniture refinisher, carpenter, painter, chef and storyteller. Vito was well-loved for his sense of humour and opinions often shared over a bottle of Valpolicella. For him family came first, he was a valued friend, mentor and arbitrator to each family member. He was honest, strong, stubborn and was always true to his word. His memory will live on with those who love him dearly. On March 7th, Vito and Joan celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary together with their children and grandchildren. The family extends sincere thanks to Dr. McCarthy, Ilde and the Joseph Brant team, Samir Patel and the Progressive Pharmacy team and Ryan and the Acclaim nursing team. In following his wishes, there will be no funeral service. Online condolences and notes of sympathy can be left at donaldvbrown.ca. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
